I have had this printer for almost a year, and cannot get it to print a document from my computer. It will copy, but not print on command. I find the control panel almost impossible to figure out!
Try a new data cable. Check that the USB port is working - try a new port and check if a known-working device is seen by the computer. If you use a print server or a hub, try a direct connection to the computer.
Do you have the latest driver for your device? Check the Dell web site.
Is the print queue holding any documents? What does the Devices and Printers Control panel say about the printer status? If the printer is listed as ready but has jobs in the queue, you may want to stop and restart the spooler. In all versions of Windows since Win95 at least, you can do this in the command prompt (Run as Administrator in Vista or Win7). Type "net stop spooler" <hit enter> without the quotes; at the next prompt, type "net start spooler" <hit enter> again without the quotes. Restart the computer.
I hope these ideas help.
