Sounds like the xbox console needs the laser adjusted or secured as per the other comments. For any discs issues, read on.

Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs.Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating "Disc Read Error" or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that XBOX owners are reporting is; if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.

Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but a professional disc repair service is normally required to fix laser burn scratches or damage to XBOX discs.

For further help on XBOX disc repairs or to get XBOX discs repaired back to "As Good As New Condition", visit:

www.discREPAIR.ie

Check the "More Info" & "FAQ" Sections for further details on disc repairs and related matters.

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the disc is in play, the games console itself may require repair. You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Hope this Helps!!

Your discs probably need a professional refinish. Check out cdfixers.com

They will professionally restore your disc back to new condition for really cheap. I've tried their service out before and my discs came back to me perfect looking.

Your DVD tray may be misaligned. Call 1-800-4my-xbox to see if your box is under warranty. Something else to consider is if you had the game in the console and moved it with the game inserted. This results in a misaligned disc and when it spins up for loading it scratches perfect circles into the disc.

Dance central disk for xbox 360 kinect, has a circle type scratch onthe back of the disk. Xbox will not let me play

Circular scratches are the most harmful to the disc's ability to play. You can try gently rinsing the disc under cool water and then drying thoroughly, bufffing with a soft clean towel. Depending on how big the scratch is, the disc may not be useable even after this, though. If it does work, be sure to always keep it in its case when not in use. Leaving CDs out is the surest way for this problem to recur.

My xbox 360 keeps freezing when i put in Mercenaries 2 at the start menu whenever im connected to xbox live

If its just this game that is doing it, then the disc may be dirty or scratched. Try cleaning it with a dry duster (wiping the disc from centre to edge). It that doesn't work, then have a good look at the disc for any scratches. If you do find any, then the disc is probably broken.

My xbox keeps saying the disc is unreadable half way through games

the disc is either scratched too much
or
the xbox dvd lense is dirty

if other discs work then it is that specific disk

try cleaning the disc with a micro fibre cloth
start on the inside and rub outwards towards the edge of the disc

you can also buy a lense cleaning kit, you put a solution on a disc and put it in the drive
it should help to clean the laser

goodluck

My xbox 360 dvd tray keeps opening

Determine whether the disc is dirty or damagedDiscs that are smudged, scratched or otherwise damaged cannot be read by the Xbox 360 console. You will want to examine the disc to see whether it has smudges, scratches, or other damage. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Examine the disc for dirt or damage: a. Pick up the disc by its edges. Do not touch the top or the bottom surface. b. Examine the shiny side of the disc to make sure that the disc is clean and has no damage.

Note Scratches that follow the curve of the disc are very damaging and prevent a disc from being read. If you see that your disc has even one of these types of scratches, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 2. If the disc is dirty, clean the disc by hand: a. Use a soft, clean, dry, chemical-free cloth to clean the disc. b. Lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward. 3. After cleaning the disc, try to load it in the Xbox 360 console. If the disc still won't load or you receive the same error message, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 4. If the disc is damaged, do one of the following: • If you think that the disc was already damaged when you bought it, try to exchange it. • If you have a damaged Microsoft Xbox 360 game disc and would like to order a new one, please visit the following Web site: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/gamesandmedia/games/discreplacement/DiscReplacementPlan.aspx (http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/gamesandmedia/games/discreplacement/DiscReplacementPlan.aspx) • If the game is a non-Microsoft Xbox 360 game disc and was damaged because of misuse of some type, such as not storing the disc properly in its case, the only thing you can do is buy a new one. • If you feel that the disc was damaged by the Xbox 360 console in some way, please contact Xbox Customer Support. To do this, please visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.xbox.com/support/contactIf the disk is bad or damaged your unit will open when trying to read it. Hope this information helps, let me know if I can help you with anything else.

X-box 360 screen says " to play this disc put in xbox 360 console"

That might be something related to your Xbox 360 console itself or the disc you are trying to play on, so first have a look on the Xbox 360 game disc itself and check whether there is any kind of scratches or flaws on it.

If you find a scratch or a flaw on the disc that seems to be the reason and just to check it you can put any other game in your Xbox 360 console and try it once more, if the other game is working fine that definitely assures that it's a fault with the game disc & check on the scratched discs page on our web site for more information about the reason for this issue to occur.

In case there is no scratch or a flaw on the game disc try the following steps:
1- With no discs in the disc tray, go to the System section on the dashboard.
2- Select Console Settings.
3- Select Start Up.
4- Make sure it is set to Disc not dashboard.
If it is set to dashboard, select Disc and try the game again. It should work.
If is already set to disc or you tried setting it to Disc and still not working try the following steps:
1. Just clean the disc & put it back in your Xbox 360 console and see whether it's going to work again or not.
2. If it's still not working try also another discs to know whether it's an issue with the actual Xbox 360 console then or not.
3. If the other discs work fine you can try it then without the hard drive because it might also be something related to the hard drive.
4. If it is still not working so this game disc would be for sure faulty and you have the right to exchange it from the retailer you bought it from as it's not scratched.

In all cases if other game discs are giving you the same error message "To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console" you need then to contact Xbox 360 customer support to send your console to get repaired or exchanged.

On my psp my games won't work

Almost at the same time the Xbox 360 was released in late 2005, consumers began reporting rounded scratches found on discs used in their Xbox 360 consoles. Almost two years later, in February 2007, the website "The Llamma's Adventures" investigated the matter and concluded that some Xbox 360 drives lack a mechanism to secure the disc solidly in place.
