Turn your computer on.

Insert the Disk and choose to enter BIOS, should be F2 but watch the screen to see the right function key.

Change the boot device order to: CD-ROM, HDD in that order.

Save changes and restart the computer.

The Recovery Disk would boot up and a wizard will guide you through the recovery process.

Follow the instructions to recover your computer.

Reinstall recovery

Make sure to download NIC drivers and save to pen drive or disc. Check HP site. Then you can install any OS if you don't have the recovery disc. Companies usually don't offer full downloads of recovery software.

Sony desktop vaio computer keeps saying missing operating system

Your operating system is currupted. You will need to repair it or restore it, if your sony desktop came with a recovery/repair cd. If it did, insert the disc, turn on the computer, set boot priority either in your bios (boot options) or the startup screen to dvd/cd rom, and follow instruction. If it didn't come with a recovery/restore disc, you are in trouble, and will need a full windows installation via a windows operating disc.

How to do system recovery on compaq presario 5000 windows me

Starting a Recovery Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F10 key repeatedly until a Recovery Screen appears. You can also start a recovery from recovery discs, or from Windows. For more information refer to Performing a Full System Recovery in Windows XP . Back to topRecovery is taking too long If your computer stops responding after using the recovery program, do the following:
NOTE: If the computer appears to have stopped responding after restarting from a recovery, please wait, it may take several hours or longer to complete the initial Windows XP setup process, especially if a recovery was run from a recovery disc set sent by HP. A Standard recovery may also take longer, depending on how many files are stored in user accounts (like in My Documents ).
  1. Exit the stalled recovery process by pressing the POWER button on the PC until the power turns off, this takes approximately five seconds.
  2. Before recovering, disconnect personal media drives, printers, scanners, cameras, camera-type memory cards, and other devices that did not originally come with the PC.
  3. If you are using recovery discs, be aware of the following items:
    • If you created the recovery discs using Recovery CD Creator, be sure to run the recovery from the same drive that you used to create the discs.
    • Clean the discs with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth wetted with distilled water. Wipe from the center of the disc to the outside edge. You may also use disc cleaning kits or disc restoration kits from your local computer store. These kits produce better results than using cloth and water.
    • You may also use available CD/DVD Drive cleaning kits to clean the laser reading lens of the CD or DVD drive.
  4. Try running a full system recovery again from the hard drive by turning the on the computer and pressing the F10 key until a Recovery Screen appears. This performs the recovery from the hard drive.
  5. If the recovery stops when recovering from the hard drive, use the section Disc errors occur during the recovery process to eliminate errors on the drive. Try recovering again after the disk errors are removed.

My pc is lock .my dauther try to many password

Some times the CAPS Lock key may be on, so please make sure that the CAPS Lock key is off.

If the issue still exists, I request you to perform the full system recovery using the recovery disks. To perform this full system recovery, you can use the recovery disks that you have created using the recovery partition.
Use the recovery discs to restore the PC by following the steps below:
1. Insert the recovery disc in the optical disc drive and start the computer.
If the computer is running, insert the recovery disc and immediately click Start and select Restart to force the computer to start from the recovery disc.
2. When prompted, Press any key to boot from CD or DVD, press any key on the keyboard.
3. Allow the recovery disc to start and load the required files while the Microsoft loading screen is displayed. It may take several minutes to load the required files.
4. When the HP Recovery Manager window displays, click Advanced options , System recovery , and then click Next to open the Recovery Manager.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions and perform the required actions.
NOTE: Do not interrupt the recovery process even though the computer may restart and the Windows desktop may display at various times.
· When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to Backup the user files.
After performing the backup, when prompted, re-insert the recovery disc, and then click Next to continue the recovery process.
· A status box is displayed to indicate the status of the recovery and the estimated time remaining.
· If you used multiple discs when you created the personalized recovery discs, follow the prompts to remove the first disc and insert any requested discs.
6. When prompted to Insert the Supplemental driver disc , take one of the following actions:
· If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it included a Supplemental driver disc, insert the disc and click OK or Next . The recovery program checks the supplemental disc and installs the specific needed files.
After the Supplemental files are installed, a prompt is displayed to remove the Supplemental disc and insert the original recovery disc.
· If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it did not include a Supplemental driver disc, click Skip or Cancel . The recovery program will ignore the request and install the next file on the recovery disc.
· If you created a personal recovery disc, press Next to continue.
7. Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.
NOTE: If you have not created a personal recovery disc, or the recovery disc fails or become corrupted, see HP Notebook PCs - Order Recovery Discs for Vista as your notebook is preinstalled with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

If you made your recovery discs, then call up gateway and tell them you have defective discs, they will send you the factory install discs for free, try them and I bet you will have better results....Restore discs you make yourself are extreemly picky and are easliy ruined if something happens while youo are burning them (someone sends you an IM or email, windows auto updates) with all the hidden processes running in the background any one of them could have caused a glitch while you were making recovery cd's

I made a system recovery of Vista, then ran it and it worked, I installed Unix Ubuntu and decided I didn't like it. I went to re-install vista using my system recovery and it failed, do you know how I can...

Hi!

I understand that you had Vista installed on your computer, then installed Ubuntu, decided you didn't like it, and now want to reinstall Vista, but your system recovery disc does not work, correct?

From you description, I presume you did a full install of Ubuntu, which will require a full reinstallation of Vista to restore it. If you still have your original Vista install disc, load it into your CD-ROM drive and follow the prompts to reinstall Windows. If you can't find your install disc, or if you were never provided one, contact Microsoft's customer support and ask them how to get a new one. You can also ask them about getting new system recovery discs, which could also help revive your system.
