It is possible that the fuser film is damaged. The fuser film covers the heating element. Open the back panel, and examine the area where the paper exits. The grey film should cover the same area as the lower black roller. If not, you will either need to replace the fuser or obtain a replacement fuser film and install it. Is the printer noisier than it used to be? The fuser bushings on these printers are notorious for wearing out and causing the film to fail. If the bushings are worn then likely a replacement fuser will be the solution for you.
These printers have a problem with the bushings on the fuser, as they wear the gear drive moves away and you nolonger have drive to the fuser. HP has a kit, you replace the fuser and the gear driving it. At the same time, you should also replace the feed roller, both are simple to do with a phillips screw driver.
Push the plate down with anything you can get into the small opening that it will allow you to get into. When you can latch the plate down, it will open. When you do get it down, toss the middle spring, along with the black plastic thing on top. It is the cause of a lot of stress and not needed.
Ist I take it you have replace the toner/drum. If not do so. If you have then check the paper path to make sure there is nothing in the way, like a torn piece of paper or a label stuck in there? If you are 100% positive the paper path is clear there maybe something stuck in the fusing unit.
Make sure there is not another piece of small paper already in the unit. if no paper then try replace toner if that doesn't then your rollers need to be replaced.
