Upright freezer makes a loud rattling sound, like something is loose. Doesn't do it all the time, but does several times a day.

Have a look behing your drws in the freezer it has probably started to freeze and the fan that blows the cold air around will have an ice build up. The noise you hear is the fan bashing against the ice. The fan is normally situated behind the panel in the freezer section.

Hope this helps

For the second time in the 4 or 5 years that I have owned my Kenmore 16.7 upright it quit cooling altogether again -- the first time I cooled the compressor with a damp (to wet) towel and a fan, being...

If the compressor is overheating I would check the condensor fan and make sure it's turning. Sounds like you wouldn't have noticed this already though. Also, if the compressor is turning on for 5 or 10 seconds and then clicking off then your start relay is probably bad. Pull the relay off the compressor and shake it. If something is loose inside then it's bad. That is, if it's a whirlpool made kenmore. Kenmore doesn't make appliances they only brand them. The refrigerator could have been made by Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE, LG, Maytag, Amana, or other. So, it's depenant on who made it.

My Kenmore upright freezer is about 6 years and has recently begun running noisier than before. Not a rattle, and not a rough sound, normal operation sound but just louder. Should I wait until it goes out,...

Check the evaporator fan inside the unit
Check the condenser fan (if equipped) under the unit
Check the compressor mounts - they are rubber and could be wearing causing the compressor to be touching something under the unit, making the noise.
Check for any loose parts like screws, hinge screws, sheet metal etc.

My upright freezer is making a loud screaching noise something like a car's slipping fan belt makes in winter. It is still freezing but sounds like something is on the way out.

If you have the model number you posted under, you are looking at replacing the evaporator fan motor, which would be a part number 4309014 for that Maytag MQU1556A. It is located inside the freezer, behind the lower back wall.

Woods Freezer Makes Loud Vibrating Noise at 10pm each night

sounds like either your compressor is loose and just rattling or the compressor is off balance and its rolling around inside the seal can.  take a look at it when it is making the noise.   put your hand on the compressor (careful   might be hot)   if it feel like it running smoothly then i would call an electrician cause that kinda puts me out of ideas without being there...  sorry

Good luck
