As it works ok in safe mode, I suggest you check that your graphics drivers are up to date.

You should be able to download the latest from the Dell website.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help, I found the correct graphics driver update for my laptop today and installed it, and my laptop started up fine!"

Screen goes black after logo appears

Windows isn't loaded, it's corrupted. You will have to reinstall. If you have some data that you can't lose then boot from a Linux Live-cd and recover them before reinstalling.

Keeps disk checking and cant get into anything . Runs disk checker and then nothing. Goes to blue scrren. Bought new one yesterday 1545 model in red , Would like to get old one working for grandson.

From you're description it sounds like the hard disk drive is defective. Suggest you replace it with a new drive, choose from the list provided; http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=Dell+Inspiron+1520+new+hard+disk+drive&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=QertS-P-NYP48AaSy8z9Cg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CDEQrQQwAA
There is another option. Restore a DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop to factory settings.
You have to do it BEFORE Windows loads...
1. Reboot, and press Ctrl + F11 at the Dell logo.
2. The Dell PC Restore by Symantec screen will come up.
3. Select "Restore" or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
4. if you wish to continue, click "Confirm", or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
5. When the utility is finished, click "Finish", or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
***This will erase all your unsaved data!***
Use you're recover CD to reinstall Windows.

Good luck!

Inspiron 1520-before finishes loading desktop screen goes black..

if it works fine in safe mode you should try a system restore . most of the time a problem that gos away in safe mode is driver related . IE software don't think you have a hard ware issue. you can call dell if you do not have the disk . 1-866-751-6079 call this number it's dell's Spanish tech support number but this is the fastest way to reach a real person at dell . just ask them to speak English and they will.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and had the same exact problem. I finally called Dell and they sent a tech out. They replaced my power cord and all the software. The reason for this is because Dell Inspirons has a default in the AC cords. Sounds like the AC power cord is the problem. You could find someone who has this cord and test your Inspiron with it or try calling Dell! It worked for me.

My Dell Inspiron 1520 will not load anything past the first Dell screen. It loads Dell then goes black with a flashing cursor in the top corner, I have tried pressing F8 to do a system restore but it never...

Hello, Beth.

The most common reason is memory. Try reseating (remove and reinsert) the memory, first.

Power off the computer and disconnect all cables. Flip the laptop to the back. Remove the battery. The memory cover has 8 screws. Remove the memory modules at a 25 degree angle and reinsert them by pushing them down firmly by the ends.

If reseating the memory doesn't solve your problem, one module may be bad. So, remove and test each module one at a time.

Hope this helps.

My screen on my dell inspiron 1520 has gone black

You've lost your desktop display.
The first thing I would do is to start the computer in safe mode. Once there, do a system restore back to the time that it worked.
I would also, just to be safe, do your disk management tasks like checking your hard drive for errors and running defrag.

Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. Blue Screen

Dear, Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems. What you can do is if you have more than one memory modules, you can boot the system with single and see. If this is due to memory leakage issue, you can find it here

The screen is blank but I can see a faint image.

Try reseating the cable that goes to the back of the lcd and also the other end of that cable that plugs into the motherboard. If that doesn't do it then either the lcd or the inverter is bad. Either way when you get a replacement screen for a dell laptop it normally comes with a new inverter as well. If your laptop is under warranty thru dell then you can get it replaced thru them. If you have your serial number then I can look it up and see if your system is still under warranty.
