If you have background doing these things, go open your camera up-to where you can move the OP block out(LENS ASSY), remove the iris unit from the assy and then take out the curtain(shutter) and clean with video clean or any alcohol base cleaner. Take extra care with flexible wires. Let it dry and then re-assemble and your done. Good Luck

By the way, before you assemble check first the iris if it really working. Open it manually and it must close when you release.

I have JVC GZ-MG20EK and when I insert the SD card, it keeps saying I dont have a memory card in there?

Make sure you have an SD card, 2GB or smaller. This camera will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

I have a JVC Everio GZ-mg20. It plays back fine, but in record mode the picture is black. It records audio, but video is black - as if the lens cover is on, but it's not. Does this just require a firmware...

I'm afraid that this is a fault. Your ccd, the image sensor, is either not working or has become disconnected. Everything else seems to be working, but the camera is blind.

Hopefully you can get this fixed under warranty. Otherwise it may be too expensive to be worthwhile.

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

JVC GZ-MG20U

It's definitely an internal problem in your camera and it sounds like you don't have any warranty after 5 years. I don't have a step-by-step help guide for you since I don't know about this camcorder but in my opinion, if the camcorder is really that good, it's worth the repairs. Though HD camcorders are getting cheaper these days...

since you didn't turn on the sound during the coverage there is no way you can have sound because you have disable the sound but if you did not reduce the sound totaly that is you can hear sound but not too high i will surgest you take it to studio so they can edit it but you let them know that you turn off the sound when you do the coverage so they will let you know if remedy can be done to it.
