You will need either the camera power supply or a charged battery, if don't have a power supply for camera or a charged battery there is no way around it.
Did it come with a browser for uploading from your camcorder? My JVC did and I used that to burn to disc then to my computer. Then I copied/pasted to sd card/usb
Reading the manuals - Switch the camera to Play and when you connect the Camera to the PC using the USB the Camera is seen as a harddrive on the PC - and you can copy the material across to the PC
Still images are also set to record to the harddrive by default - see page 20 of the instruction manual
Page 15 describes how to change recording to the SD card

To record video, a microSDHC card with Class 4 or higher performance is required. microSD memory cards (256MB to 2GB) and microSDHC memory cards (4GB) have been tested for the following brands: Panasonic, Toshiba, SanDisk, ATP. No others have been officially tested and can therefore be guarenteed to work
if your camera takes an sd card their should be a save to memory card setting in the menu of the device if that does not work you could transfer them to your pc then drag and drop them on your sd card
