If you are already using your dictation machine then you don't need to install its software as its already installed. Now you only require Nero for burning files to CDs. You also require a CD writer installed on your pc. You shall know where your files are saved when you record through dictation machine. If you can't find the recorded files kindly comment back.

Well since you have not used your dictation machine with your pc then now you are required to just plug it in through usb and install the driver when asked by the pc through the CD which you received alongwith the machine. Since I don't know your machine's model i can't provide you with download link.

Voice Recorder-Files to CD?

Please follow the below solutions to create either an audio CD-ROM of .wav files or back-up
.wav files to a CD-ROM.
Problem: .Wav files downloaded to PC computer from the DW-90, VN Series, and DSS Files
created with DS Series recorders cannot be copied to a rewritable CD-ROM using Windows
Media Player to create an audio CD-ROM.
Explanation: These digital voice recorders create .wav files at 8kHZ, 12kHZ, or 22kHz
depending on the Quality setting. Digital Wave player software is used to download Wav files to
a PC computer from the DW or VN Series of recorders. DSS Player is used to download DSS
files from the DS Series recorders and convert them to Wav files. If Windows Media Player is
then used to copy the files to a rewritable CD-ROM to create an audio CD-ROM, the files will
not copy properly or an error message may appear. Windows Media Player can only create an
audio CD-ROM if the .wav file is 44.1kHZ, 16 bit stereo.
Solution: Follow the procedure below to convert the .wav files to 44.1 kHZ, 16 bit stereo. Then
use Windows Media Player to copy the files to a rewritable CD-ROM.
1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Entertainment, and then click Sound Recorder.
2. On the File menu, click Open.
3. In the Open dialog box, specify the name of the audio file that you want to convert, and
then click OK. Files are usually located at C:\Program Files\Olympus\Digital Wave
Player\Message\Folder A.
4. On the File menu, click Save As.
In the Save As dialog box, click Change.
In the Attributes box, click 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo, and then click OK.
Click Save. After you convert your files, try to copy them to a CD-ROM again.

Transfering a stored PC recording

The recordings simply reside on your pc, but not in the "Digital Wave Player" software. The software is merely there to let you play the recordings, probably because they are not in a native Windows format.

If the recordings are "Wave, .wav" files as suggested by the software, then simply locate the files you want to put on disc... I am guessing you want to burn on cd.

Then, use a burning program such as Nero to add these files and burn to disc.

If you don't have Nero, then you would need to figure out what type of burning software your machine has installed and go from there.

Can transfer but cannot burn

Not so much as a solution as a reason why it won't work. The Olympus web site FAQs says that you can't transfer onto an audio CD because the 4-bit depth used to expand the recorder memory can't be converted to a format that is compatible with audio CDs.

I'd be very pleased to find someone who's found a way round this as I brought this recorder to record my study notes, put them onto CD and play them to myself in the car, walking the dog, during lunchbreak etc.

Olympus VN-2100PC exported files

The only way I have found to convert the files is to use Nero or ITunes. Those are the only two methods I've found to read the file. ITunes can both burn them to an audio cd and convert the file to mp3.

Editing? Can dictation be paused, then go back part way and....

you can not do this with the Olympus ws-100, you need a dictation machine that has the editing function which allows you to easily insert, overwrite, partially erase files and continue on the same file, most of the digital dictation units have NEW FILE BUTTON , you will stay recording on the same file till you press new.
Look at Olympus DS-2300. Olympus DS-33300 or ds-4000.

Formatting a file to an audio cd

write an 'audio cd' by the roxio creator, instead of directly buring the file to CD

Please choose an option to write 'audio CD' bcos most of the CD players do not recognise other formats
