One of two things have happened.
1) Either it's system board has has gone bad or
2) The dvd laser block has gone bad.

May cost more to service it than to purchase a new one?
Call around to a trusted service shop to get an estimate of repair.

VHS to DVD-R

You say "home made" - not sure what you mean by that. If it was a copy of something that was originally retail, it's possible the Macrovision encoding copied over with it - in which case your DVD recorder is working as it's supposed to to prevent illegal copying of disks. I'm a bit wary of getting into this in any depth, as it treads the lines of legality. If I found a way for you to bypass this copy protection, it would allow you to pirate movies freely. I'm not going to discuss my own feelings on that, but I will say that I'm not going to support such actions on a public forum. That being said, if for some reason your totally legitimate home made tape managed to get something that's being interpreted as Macrovision coding on it, you may want to do a google search for digital video stabilizer. That will point you in the right direction.

I hadnt used my machine in a while. I went to transfer from a VHS to DVD Loaded both - no problem After finishing the transfer the I couldnt get the DVD to eject Help please

Did you follow directions on how to transfer VHS to DVD ? When the dvd is finished copying it MUST!! finalize the copy. If you attempt to eject DVD while in FINALIZING it gets stuck. Try and unplug the power for about 1/2 hour. plug in and eject. p.s. read the manual....the machine is complicated!!

When copying a vhs tape to dvd, and there is only a short amount of video on the vhs tape, how do I just burn that and not the whole 2 hour tape? When I stop the copying it does not finalize and do not...

You must be able to watch what is being reocorded.
After the part you want to record is finished stop it.
Also the recording can be set for a set amount of time.

VHS record to DVD

Insert the VHS and rewind or fast forward to the point you want to begin copying from.
Insert the disc you plan to use and format it if necessary. It will usually prompt you if it is necessary to do so.
Put the television on the channel or input needed to view the recorder on-screen.
Select the DVD drive and set the record mode you prefer - XP, SP, LP or EP.
There are two things you can do:
1. Press and hold the dubbing/copying button on the recorder itself in the direction of the DVD for 3 seconds. If you are using a DVD-R/RW or +R you will receive a message stating to press Play to record without finalizing or press Record to record and finalize. If you are using +RW or -RAM, these cannot be finalized - therefore this message will not display.
2. You can access the Functions menu and go to Copy, then select the copy direction VHS to DCD and select Start Copying.

DVD copying

There are double layer DVD's that they make which usually have about 2x the memory. check to see if your DVD recorder supports these types of DVD's. You could also just divide your media on to two sides of a double sided DVD (each side has the mirror look and you can record onto both sides)(still the same disc) or you could record on to multiple DVD's (may be inconvenient but is still an option). Also, you could reduce the recording quality just a bit so that it is not noticable when you watch it but it still uses less space on the disk. I would tell you how to do these things but I have no experience with the individual model that you have.

Copying vhs to dvd

The write-protect tab on the cartridge is set to "PROTECT" or the disc is protected witht the "DVD Management" settings.
Some video tapes on the market(including rental videos) are copy-protected to prevent illegal reproductions. Copy-protected video tapes cannot be properly recorded.
You cannot use the copying function when the FUNCTIONS window, the Scheduled Recording List screen, etc. are displayed.
I hope this information can be of some help to you all. Ms Tanya 2/12/08 3:54AM CST.
