I have a B130. The touchpad is completely missing from the control panel. i downloaded and installed drivers for it to no avail. I checked BIOS and the touchpad is turned on. I ran the Dell Diagnostics and it reported that it couldn't find a mouse. When I tested the pointing device in the Diags program, it reported an error 3535:011B - Keyboard controller. I don't know exactly what that means, but I suspect that the motherboard circuitry might be screwed up for the touchpad. FWIW - A USB mouse works fine. I would like to repair the touchpad if it is a practical repair. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the cable and it seemed good. I checked the individual traces with an ohm meter to be sure. I bought a used touchpad assy which included a used cable. I installed the replacement touchpad / cable and all is working fine.

It may not be the touchpad, it may be the thin cable that supplies data input, they are easily damaged and can also slip out of the flat sockets that they are plugged into. Taking the laptop apart and inspecting these cables would be the first step.

I used to have a touchpad settings program but can't find it any more

Usually all dell system are provided with ALPS touchpad. First check whether ALPS is installed or not from (control panel -> programs). If installed go to (control panel -> mouse) then you will see a tab called "dell touchpad". click on the image, you will see touchpad window settings. There check the checkbox (Display icon in taskbar).
If the ALPS touchpad is not installed please go to dell driver download site and download and install that.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, purchased about an year ago. My OS is Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. The touchpad is not working. I have reinstalled the official driver, but to no avail.

Reboot and enter your bios (instructions are on the boot screen), reset your bios to defaults. If you're using a synaptics touchpad, they're a bit finicky and you need to remove your existing software in the control panel and install a fresh copy of it.

How do i make my inspiron 8130 to use all of the screen

You need to change the screen resolution to at least 10284X768<br /> Go the Control Panel - Display - Settings then change the screen resolution.<br /> If you cannot increase the screen resolution then the video driver wasn't installed or got corrupted.<br /> You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. <br /> (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and<br /> on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: - <br /> <span style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"><a href="http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&amp;l=en&amp;s=gen" target="_blank">http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&amp;l=en&amp;s=gen</a></span><br />

The "mouse" pad on my Acer Aspire 5920 laptop has suddenly stopped working. What can I do to mend it

You can try pressing the Fn + F7 key to activate it, if that does not help you can check in the BIOS if the touchpad is disabled.

My touchpad stopped working

You may have to go into the control panel and in the mouse properties make sure the touchpad has not been disabled.
You may also troubleshoot the touchpad in this same area of the control panel. If none of these solutions helps just go to the "hardware" tab and select "propertys". Under the driver tab select "uninstall" and restart the computer. During the restart the computer will see that there is new hardware and attempt to install the touchpad. You may need your drivers disk for this.
