Hi, I bought a new Netgear router because I want to connect my son to the internet from my pc to his laptop. I phoned Tiscali when I couldn't get connected to the internet with the new one. They said that I didn't need a new one as I could have done it with the Seimens Gigaset 587 WLAN dsl that they supplied. They said they would email the instructions on how to do it, but they haven't emailed yet. Could you possibly give me the instructions on how to do it. I'd be most grateful. My OS is Windows XP and my son's laptop is Windows 7. Thanks in advance Alec

Hi Again, sorry for the confusion - My Fault - , but I posted the question in the "3 com" box and got an answer for a "3 com device". The question concerns the SEIMENS GIGASET 587 WLAN DSL. Is the solution the same? Sorry again for MY mistake.

Hi I'm looking to install a DG834G router to give wireless access but the only instal disc is from AOL and I'm not with them anymore, I have tiscali broadband. How do install the router if it won't plug...

Try NOT using any install disk.

Turn the TISCALI router off.
Turn the NetGear off.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect from the LAN port on the TISCALI router to the WAN port on the router.

Use another Ethenet cable to connect from one LAN port on the router to the network-port on your computer.

Turn the TISCALI on. Wait 60 seconds.
Turn the NetGear on. Wait 60 seconds.
Restart your computer.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
Look for output like: Default Gateway....192.168.123.456
Note that the '123.456' will be some other numbers.
Start Internet Explorer.
Type http://192.168.123.456 (substitute the current values)
Login to the web-server running on the router.
Run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard"
to configure a SSID, an encryption-level (use 'WPA')
and a password for your network.
After the router restarts, you should be able to get wireless access, using the SSID and password that you configured your router to use.

Will not connect to internet

Hi leapam31,

What your router is asking for is a secure wep login. You can provide your partner this number by loging into your router, and go to the securty section of the menu, and generate a new wep key. It will then generate a key, that you should right down, because this new key may block out the existing two computers that already have access. When you log into the router on those machine, you may need to put the same key in.

Good Luck

Netbook won't connect to my home network

I re-typed in the WPA number in the new netbook, which has now got it working. I found the WPA number by typing in a number Tiscali gave me to search for my router information (Netgear) in the search bar on my main computer and getting my WPA key from there.

Netgear DG834G v3 Installation

connect the yellow (or blue?) ethernet cable to your computer, this should connect to the router (router should be ON)

Now, in internet explorer type 192.168.0.1 (this should be the defualt gateway for the router on default settings.

Now you're into the router, there should be a setup wizard button in there.

See if you can set it up using that

Regards

No connection

what you should have bought was a ADSL modem/router, but if you only have a router, try the following:- go to the TCP/IP properties of your network card and ensure that it is set as obtain ip address automatically, restart the pc. Connect modem to the router then connect your router via rj45 cable to your pc, then type 192.168.1.254(This should be the default gateway) into your internet browser to get to the router settings. Look for DHCP and enable it to give your pc an automatic ip address and save settings. You should now have a 100MBPS connection to the router, if you have got a modem router ensure that you have the correct Tiscali settings inputed.
