Fan motors keep burning up - Broan-NuTone N-769RF Combination Light Fan Exhaust Fan

nutone side discharge fan motors keep burning up. Need to verify correct wiring from panel through duplex switch to fan.

  • Anonymous Jun 14, 2018

keeps (but no time stated) 1 day , 1 year, 5 years. we can not guess time frames.

1; wrong motor? did you buy the wrong motor?
2: no air flow, vent blocked motor overheats.
3: some motors use a ballast. or CAP. that can be bad. (not this fan)

    it is a 2 wire motor, and 1 p/n
    and has no ballast/cap's.
but the correct motor is needed here of the 100s model fans they sell AT BROAN. and on ebay vast, (most are wrong there)
    this is a match up.
    87547-000

that number is the only fan allowed.
the book is clear on that, did you read the manual first. ?

Hi,
There are a couple of things that you will need to check. First, is there an obsrtuction in the vent pipe that will not allow the air to move out of the room. Verify that the fan is actually moving air and not just sitting there running. Most motor depend on air going over them to cool them.

The other thing would be to verify the voltage AT THE FAN. It would be best if you could do that while the fan is running. There may be a poor connection somewhere that is dropping the voltage to the fan motor which will make it run hot and burn it up. Find a bad connection can be difficult, but usually the connection will also be getting hot and have the telltale brown or black burn marks.

Room fan operates continually

the capacitor is correct for the motor
all it does is supply an over voltage burst to start the motor turning, then to keep it running while the switch is on
if the capacitor was faulty in the original motor then the motor will burn out as that over voltage is not there but the current to run the motor is so the motor over heats and burns
as to the constant running it is important to check how you attached the wires to the new motor as you may have a power wire direct to the motor instead of through the switch control

2001 dodge dakota keeps burning up blower motor resistors and I have changed the blower motor would it be a bad ground and where do I look? Truck has a few other electrical problems

Check the alternator output voltage. It sounds like the voltage regulator is bad. A bad ground would not complete the circuit so no fan at all or a slow turning fan due to no or low voltage. A bad ground will not burn up the speed resistor

I have a dayton hanging furnace that after a few minutes the fan stops and burner keeps burning then a few minutes later the fan starts again and keeps repeating this cycle. model 3E845. thanks.

On the side of the heat exchanger is a fan Klixon that turns that motor on when the temp exceed 110f on the side of the heater. maybe that thang is going out or your fan motor needs oiling and is cutting out on overload. Next to the fan klixon is usually a limit. Both look the same. The fan klixon will have a marking stamped into the metal such as F-120 the limit will have L-240.

What should the resistance be on the interior fan? The fan resistor keeps getting very hot and keeps blowing the resistor pack.

The fault is not with the resistor pack but the HIGH consumption of the fan motor. It will be good to check and over haul the fan motor before you are going to replace it as the fan seems to drain off too much current heating up the resistor and burning it off.

Heater in 2001 kia spectra stoped working

The burning smell is most likely an issue with the blower motor. These small motors have a hard life and the windings can lose the insulation and short out, hence the burning smell. Another problem can arise if the air intake has filled with leaves and other matter which can be ignited by the fan speed resistor creating the smoke. As this matter rots down, it creates chemicals which can erode the insulation on the motor and cause burning and the eventual failure of the motor. The fan speed resistor is a bank of wirewound or solid state resistors wired across the fan motor which give the individual fan speeds. If these fail then you would lose the fan as well. Search out the fan housing as the resistor is usually fitted into this housing to keep it cool. NEVER turn the fan on if this resistor is out of the housing as it WILL get hot and It can cause a nasty burn..the resistor can have upto 7 wires plugged into it but as to it's exact location, that you will have to find on your own..

Fan stopped working

It's possibly a lubrication problem. I can't seem to keep mine lubricated, so good luck with yours.
