Fan motors keep burning up
Hi,
There are a couple of things that you will need to check. First, is there an obsrtuction in the vent pipe that will not allow the air to move out of the room. Verify that the fan is actually moving air and not just sitting there running. Most motor depend on air going over them to cool them.
The other thing would be to verify the voltage AT THE FAN. It would be best if you could do that while the fan is running. There may be a poor connection somewhere that is dropping the voltage to the fan motor which will make it run hot and burn it up. Find a bad connection can be difficult, but usually the connection will also be getting hot and have the telltale brown or black burn marks.

Hi,
Okay here you go.... hook all of the white wires together....hook the green wire anywhere on the metal part of the fan unit...
then hook the black to one of the red wires and the blue black to the other red wire.... if it does not work right then just reverse the hook up of the two red wires...

NEED TO KNOW from scratch,step
hi,
okay three wires into switch box? hopefully.
it will need a 25 amp breaker at the panel, remove the one in the panel and take it with you to the hardware store get a 25 amp replacement.
the conduit that runs the old fan should be sufficient or use 16 gauge conduit.
okay locate your power in wire conduit with tester.
now all the white neutral wires go together
take the black power wires and install it to one side of the switch
make a small jumper wire and that must go from the black wire you just installed to the same side of the next switch.
the two black wires coming down from the ceiling go to the empty side of the switches, one wire for each switch.
depending on what you want, you can use a standard 240 volt wall heater thermostat for the ceiling heater or just use a switch, since those are just mostly used for when your in the bathroom.
if you only have one wire coming down from the fan your going to have to go up in the attic and fish a new wire for the heater and night light
nutone makes a special three switch setup for one box for that fan, you might want to buy that, it may come with a wiring diagram too.
any questions write me back, your setup may be different..
ground wires all go together and are green or arent insulated
be careful , take time

While I cannot recommend DIY wiring, for educational purposes these two sites are very handy:
12With the two fans running in parallel, wiring two fans to a single pole duplex switch would be the same as wiring one.
NUTONE FAN 8310:
WHAT IS THE
It does not matter whether the power goes to the fan unit or to the switch box, you still need 3 insulated wires going between the switich and the fan, and the ground wire as a 4th wire. If power is at switch, you will have white as nuetral feed to fan and 2 blacks (or a red and a black) one each to bring power for light and power for fan or heater element. ( if so equiped). If power is to fan unit, the white wire must have a piece of colored tape (red, orange, blue, brown) and this whtie wire is attached to the black power wire. The tape shows that this is not a neutral. The tape has to be at both ends of the white. Now, the other 2 wires (blk & blk or red & blk) can be atteched to the switch and carry the elec. to the fan light, blower, and or heater. Goodluck, Macgivor
Noisy fan
We had our house built with the same Nutone fan/light units in all 4 bathrooms. Moved in in 2002. One of the units starting making a loud noise last month. I popped the plasic cover off the light, then carefully pulled out the bulb, then unscrewed the wingnut in the middle. That allowed removal of the light assembly. Then I had access to the blade and motor. I found a lot of dust had collected on the motor and blade. I blew most of it off with compressed air (like what you would use on a computer), then used an electronic cleaner on the motor, then wiped off the blade and motor with a clean cloth.
I then crossed my fingers and turned on the fan.... It worked! It was quiet again. I waited a week before posting this. The fan is used every day. It is still quiet today.
If it ever needs replacing, I saw that Nutone sells the motor alone for about $22, that's a lot better than replacing the whole unit for around $70.

Broan bath fan motor has bad bearings.
The motor is usually not repairable. You can sometimes purchase the motor and fan separate but that is about it. Here is a link to a blog about replacing motors.

How to change the light bulb?
Pull the cover from each side directly straight down. The cover will come down about 2 inches. Reach up on either side and squeeze together the spring to release it from the housing. The cover will swing down. Replace bulb. Squeeze the spring back together and initiate it into the housing. The last step is to push vertically the cover back up in to the housing.
