My JVC TH-S5 system just stopped outputing sound on all modes (TV/DVD/CD/AUX)
It was working fine when switched off, the next day no sound when switched on, picture is fine, DVD playback on screen is fine, just no sound from any input
When I switch the system on, I can hear the 'click' from the sub-woofer indicating that the DVD player is switching the sub & speakers on but no matter how high I turn up the volume, I get no sound
Is there a simple fuse in the sub-woofer assy or something?
Can anyone help with this please?
Thanks
Steve W
I know this is an old topic however someone somewhere might benefit from this feedback. I purchased the JVC TH-S5 service manuals from ManualsParadise.com and after metering all the supplies as 'OK', I then focused in on the 'common' lines associated with the two onboard power amps IC's (STK413-400) and found that they were missing a bias supply. This is derived from the onboard 40v Supply 'dropped' down by a 47 ohm resistor R2702 (rated 1/4 watt but advised to make this at least 1/2 watt). The resistor was found to be open circuit i.e. a very high ohmic value. Looking at the circuit diagram again, I would feel that this is going to be a common issue with this unit.

Thanks Mike. I had exactly the same problem with my unit.
Popped out the cards, checked the resistor, looked fine but measured open circuit. Replaced the resistor and then there was sound. Simples...
Thanks for the suggestion...
First, make sure it didn't get muted, or the remote's volume got turned way down. Next, it might be time to involve a technician who can check all the power supply voltages. Many of today's electronics have multiple voltage power supplys, 5 volts for logic, 12 volts for motors, and amplifiers usually have the biggest- maybe plus and minus 30 volts for a total of 60. There are hazardous voltages in there too, a switching power supply starts with over 300 volts. So don't lick it and see if your tongue tingles, that's only for 9 volt batteries.
NOTE
When playing a video component such as a DBS tuner or cable box;
• To listen to the sound, select "AUX DIGITAL" as the source to play.
(See page 14.)
• To see the picture, connect the video output jack of the component to
the video input jack of the TV directly, and select the correct input
mode on the TV.

I am a technical support engineer myself and would be only too happy to test the voltage levels at various points IF I could get hold of a schematic or service manual
Its definitely NOT muted. I have tried varying the volume and can see the volume # increasing and decreasing on the dvd display
The fact that there is no sound from any of the speakers suddenly, makes me think it is something to do with the amp circuitry. But I dont know enough about this system to know where exactly that lies. I would presume that the signal levels from the DVD player to the Sub-woofer are small with the amplification being done in the powered sub?
Any further advice on where to look would be very much appreciated :-)
I have the same problem. And at least in my case the ear phone output is working but not SCART sound.
no sound from scart connections but sound from the ear phones
