There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.

Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.

I hope this answered your question.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.

Intel Dual Core is the first dual-core CPU from Intel. The Dual core makes use of two cores on a single die i.e it has two chips in one package. ... Intel Core 2 Duo processors are the next gen processors. Both are older processors.

Had this same question 2007 when we bought a Sony Vaio laptop with a core2 duo processor. We chose it because it is a superior processor, the second generation of dual core processors, with a different architecture from the first generation. It is a super over clocker that runs cool.

What is the main difference between a dual core CPU, and a Core2 Duo CPU ?

A dual core processor has two cores (essentially, two CPUs on one chip). Core2Duo is a specific dual-core processor design. Thus, all Core2Duo CPUs are dual-core CPUs, but not all Intel dual-core CPUs are Core2Duo designs.

Essentially all current Intel consumer dual-core CPUs today are Core2Duo designs. They have different names, but vary mostly in terms of their FSB speed (mostly, how quickly data can be transferred to/from RAM) and in the amount of cache memory in the CPU (cache memory is a relatively small amount of high-speed memory on the CPU chip that stores frequently-used data and instructions; it can improve performance 4-15% or so, depending on the amount).Best Regards, Luis.

I carnt work out what size chip to put on the p5s-mx se Socket LGA775 motherboard

Ok no problem I can help you there. First you want Intel or AMD. I would take Intel. Then you want Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, I'd take Intel Core 2 Duo, then you need to find out the Frontside Bus Speed of your motherboard, it has to match the CPU. So let's say its 1,066MHz. And you want something faster than 1.8 so go with 2.4GHz. So now we looking for a Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz, 1066MHz bus speed with stock cooler. So then go to www.intel.com, in their search box type "Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz" and it will bring up all the CPU's and their prices..if you have any questions let me know. Pls rate this solution.

Difference b/w Core to duo and daul core

Core 2 Duo is a Brand name by intel to identify his class of Dual core CPU

a Dual core CPU is basically two CPU in one package, which dramatically improves performance over previous architectures.

Pentium Dual Core is another brand name by Intel to identify his new entry level CPU offer.Basically Pentium dual-core are similar to Core 2 Duos except they(pentiums) are slower and cheaper.
they both are dual core CPUs.
I would prefer a core 2 Duo having to choose a laptop because of better performance, but the prize is different for the two solutions.

Upgrade the processor on a Toshiba equium l40 series from a celron M

The core2 duo chips will be a different socket to your celeron cpu so can do that unfortunately. You may be able to upgrade to a faster cpu of the same socket type but will probably need a bios update for it to run at proper speed.

Unfortunately laptops arent really designed to be upgraded at all bar extra ram/hd/dvdrw.

Hope that helps?
