Could be the drive, get some electronic switch cleaner from Maplins spray into drive and run a disk. ensure no major scratches on disc that can stop a disc being recognised.

I have a Wurlitzer 1015 OMT CD jukebox (1999). The unit will grab the CD and place it on the CD player but the CD will spin but it the CD doesn't stay in the middle of the player. Anyone have thoughts

In the center of the spindle of the CD spin motor is a plastic post with 3 or 4 spring loaded ball bearings in it. These are supposed to catch and hold the CD securely while it spins. Your selector arm that moves the CD into position may be out of adjustment and not pushing the CD's hard enough to snap them into position over these balls or the springs holding these balls may be worn or missing. These don't usually wear out but if the machine had been bounced around a lot during it's long life, who knows? One way to check would be to manually place a CD over the spindle and press it on. If it snaps into position securely, it is the arm adjustment. For that, you will either need the service manual or if you are mechanically inclined, look for a spring loaded adjustment screw somewhere on the arm assembly. If you find an adjustment, DO NOT over tighten it as you could bend the arm. Start with small adjustments until the CD mounts the spindle every time then stop there. These adjustments vary from brand to brand. Good luck.

I have a philips hts6510 home theatre system and when i put a dvd in to play it says no disc

hi,
Normally a dvd player shows the message NO DISC when,
1. The disc inserted is bad.
2 The lase pickup unit inside the dvd lost its reading intensity, dirty lens or the spindle motor damaged .

In your case the second one happened. the intensity of the laser pickup unit has lost or the spindle motor faulty or there is some dust on its lens. just insert a cleaning cd in it for two or three times. then check again is the DVD is reading or not

if the problem remains then you have to check the motor and the laser pickup unit. the lase pickup unit have two laser emitter and receiver in its inside . one for reading and playing DVDs and the other for CD and MP3. also the spindle motor runs in different speed when u insert dvd and cd.

Open the cover of your dvd player and power it on insert an audio cd and watch is it reading or not also notice the speed of the spindling of the cd. if the audio cd reads and play. then the possible problem is the spindle motor

To conform it remove the audio cd and insert a dvd. watch the rotation of the dvd. if it feel very hard to rotate it then, the spindle motor is damaged. if so replace the spindle motor if it runs more the the speed of than audio cd then the laser pickup unit is faulty. Then u have to replace the laser pickup unit.

DVD recorder (R155) will not recognize discs!!!

there are two possibilities a deffective spindle motor and a worn out lazer lens.
clean first the lens with a cotton buds dip in an alcohol gently wipe the lens.you need to open the cover of the dvd in order for you to do the cleaning.if cleaning do not work replace the lens or check the spindle motor this motor is the one spinning the CD.be sure that the cd is spinning once played... good luck pease click the four thumbs up button for answering your free question

The CD spins, but will not play. It does not seem

Your laser head has probably gotten weak, or the spindle motor is worn. You can probably replace either yourself if you're VERY mechanically inclined, otherwise I would leave that up to a shop.
Good luck.

Technics sl-pg580A

this player uses a philips mechanism, spindle motor failure is very common on these mechanisms, yours may be on its way out. take the lid off and insert a cd and if you can hear the laser trying to read the cd without it spinning, it's definately the spindle motor.

Cd player fault quick fix any one?

You can do a few things to see what may happen.
  1. Check the spindle height. The platters sometimes slip down the shaft, or the spindle motor bearing drops and the platter gets closer to the lens.
  2. check that the spindle motor has not become lazy and "poling". give it a few spins. then try to read a disc again.
  3. Clean the laser lens with a cotton wool bud moist with windex glass cleaner. Then "polish the lens with a dry one.
  4. the spindle motor top bearing is worn and the payer mistracks as the armature moves about under the changing drive conditions. Makes the player mistrack and skip. More likely to happen at the start of a disc, because the disc is spinning fastest whilst reading the TOC.
A drop of light machine oil from a syringe oiler can help the bearing to spin an not produce the knock. Only a short term fix to give the motor a "lube". Once the oil leaches out of the worn bearing the problem will return. I have run motors immersed in an oil bath to rejuvenate them before... but better to replace it anyway if its suss at all. Good luck, You could bump my profile by giving me a "FixYa" rating for my sharing my "knowhow". Any problems check back with me here.

DVD PLAYER NOT READING DISC

Well I have been repairing dvd players a while now and the main problem spots are laser ,spindle motor, laser tracking motor and the biggest culprit and un suspecting one the lens cable .....most of them range from the lens cable to the spindle motor though... the constant movement of the lens in watching a whole movie causes the cable to unknowingly and slowly break and if the spindle motor is defective ,on inserting a dvd the disc spins slowly and you may hear the lens chirping ... so you can check those....

Marantz CD48 - CD spins backwards

Check the small signal transistors BC338 and BC328, they're under the transport mech and will be near where the spindle motor plugs in to the PCB.
One of the transistors acts as a brake which momentarily puts the motor in reverse polarity to stop the CD rotating during 'stop' or 'open tray' modes. The reason the CD is spinning backwards is that the transistor which drives the spindle motor forwards during playback is faulty and is triggering the braking transistor hence spinning backwards.
The transistors should be 'BC328-25' / 'BC338-25' (25v)
Replace these and all should be well.

Hope this helps
