Soap dispenser door doesn't open during cycle of my Maytag dishwasher

Over the past couple of weeks I noticed that the dishes were not coming out sparkling clean as they used to, and then I realized that the soap dispenser door was not springing open to release the soap during the wash cycle. At the end of the drying time, the soap dispenser door is still shut and there is a clump of soap in there from the little bit of water that managed to seep in during the wash cycle. Help!

Kqon, looks like your dispenser has a wax motor. I think the first thing you have to do is remove the inner door and inspect the soap dispensor assy. See if any of the moving parts are broken. This wax motor is 120V so you can run a cheater cord to it to see if it works, but be very careful when doing this. It will expand the plunger and open the flap. If the wax motor operates with 120V applied to it then you want to see if you have power coming from the timer. It will be the tan wire # 27 on the timer harness. You also want to make sure the spring and pin are in place on the dispenser flap. Your part number for the wax motor is 902899. Catriver.

You are going to take the inner door off. I believe there are 7 screws. Be careful, the harness to the wax motor will be attached. You want to lift it out easy. Catriver.

The soap dish opened, but the dishes were not cleaned. The soap remains on the door even after two or three wah cycles. Checked all of the buttons.

Since you mention that your dishwasher has a dispenser has a flap that opens but detergent does not come out, the problem could be the wash water is not getting to it.

Can you confirm if during wash cycle the water is circulating especially through the top wash arm.

Keep a small container on the top rack and see if there is water collected in it at the end of cycle. Alternatively run the dishwasher with door open (you will have to find a way to enable the door switch inside the latch).

Please post a comment to confirm what you observe.

The soap compartment will not open during the wash cycle.

Hi

Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn’t allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Newer (plastic liner) Maytag dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open. And, if this wax motor doesn’t receive 120 volts, then it’ll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip, also inspect the connections to these.
Please revert for any further assistance.

My whirlpool dishwasher soap dispenser is apparently not opening during cleaning. I find dirty dishes and clumps of soap in the hopper. Whirlpool quiet partner II

I bet your clumps of soap began with the beginning of the use of a different DW detergent powder.

Try this (trust me) Go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) Use it for two loads of dishes and report your results back here. OK?

The soap dispenser opens but the soap is not dispensed and the dishes do not get cleaned. Can you help?

Make sure that there is nothing blocking the soap door from opening fully when the dishwasher is shut. This happened to me and I also thought that the soap door was opening during the cycle when it actually only partially opened during the wash and then popped open fully when I opened the dishwasher at the end of the cycle. So some, but not all, of the soap was used.

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.

Dishwasher soap dispenser won't open during cycle

I had the same problem with my GE Adora. The dishes were getting cloudy and the soap dispenser would not open. Turns out the hard water deposits were causing the soap dispenser to stick shut. I purchased and used Dishwasher Magic which is a dishwasher cleaner designed to remove limescale, rust and buildup. I used as directed and now my dishes are sparkling and the soap dispenser pops right open.

Before taking anything to bits, check you aren't just loading the machine in such a way that something (for us, it's usually a frying pan) is stopping the soap dispenser from springing open all the way. A.
