Just left-click the file or folder you want to copy, choose copy.

Open My Computer and find the external drive, double click, once the folder opens just right-click and choose Paste.

That's pretty much it....or you could also drag files / folders to the drive.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: problem removing write protect from seagate free agent drive

The problem is because Mac cannot write to NTFS formatted drives. You will have to reformat the drive in Mac. You will loose all the data :( Here is a link for the how to:

SOURCE: help for Seagate Free Agent 500 GB external hard drive

I just got a Free agent 500gb today and I checked from my computer to see how much actual space was available on the HDD and it showed the same amount that you're getting 465gb. I believe the 35gb that's missing is used for some standard program/files that the Free agent requires for regular operation.

SOURCE: Seagate Free Agent Drive cannot be modified? Worked before...

Ok,

Sounds like it's one of three things then

Disk trouble from unplugging the usb while the unit is still "running" and not yet finalized. Running CHKDSK /? /F in the run box where ? = extrenal drives lettrer. Then restart the computer(done from windows PC with drive attached)

Shell trouble I have already advised a dozen or so people this week that if CHKDSK doesn't work, replace the shell with a new one and see if the hard drive works in the new shell.

Failed harddrive, of course this is always an option. If neither of the above suggestions works then it's possible the hdd has failed and you may need to send it to a pro if you have any files on it that need retreiving.

Hope this helps FixYa, if you need additional help just reply to this by adding a comment.

Yes you can, but use the FAT32 format, it is the only format that both can read and write to.

I received this message about Seagate Free Agent Go 500 Gb: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename.

It seems that your Seagate Free agent has lost it connection to your laptop because of the problem in usb cable
Try to unplug the usb cable from your laptop and plug in again

I plug my seagate into the computer. it turns on but then nothing

Hi,

Plug one usb into your computer and the other end into the drive.
If the light comes on, all is good. The computer should install the device for you automatically. To access the drive, go to My Computer and double click on the Removable Drive. Now you can transfer files.

Hope this helps

Can't open files copied to my Seagate Free Agent Go

Ok, install Office onto your laptop and see how it goes. Don't be too panic striken Microsft in general allow one copy of the same program to be running on a desktop and a laptop at the same time on the same license.
It's a home/work thing, Laptop goes to work, desktop stays at home and you can't be using them both right =)
