Trying to connect a DVD player to a TV that is only equipped with a cable jack what do I do

You need an A/V to RF adapter to convert the audio and video outputs of the DVD player to RF so that you can watch the DVD player on an available VHF channel on the TV. See this device offered by Amazon:
RF Modulator TV Switch Audio Video RCA Ant Input to Type Coax Output...
You may also need a short 75 ohm length of coaxial cable with "F" type connectors on both ends and A/V cables with RCA plugs to complete the setup.

RF Modulators and cable connections

RF MODULATOR HOOKUP
For a TV with only a RF input jack, a RF Modulator can be used to hookup DVD players, DVD recorders and other devices which output RCA composite video and audio. For example, analog cable TV can be connected using a RG-6 type coaxial cable to a VCR or older DVD recorder's analog cable ready tuner RF input. Then as shown above, the output can be connected to the TV thru the RF modulator. The modulator outputs on channel 3 or 4 for the older TV so the TV is set to channel 3 or 4. Some RF modulators are built-in to Audio/Video switch boxes. These allow multiple RCA inputs along with RF input.

RF MODULATOR CLOSE-UP
The modulator converts signals to channel 3 or 4 so older TVs can tune them on their analog tuners channel 3 or 4.

My wii u stil wont work after being hooked to an rf modulator to an older tv

Hi Lisa can you provide some more information
What is the model number and make of the rf modulator?
what wii output did you use to go into the rf modulator ?
what frequency does the rf modulator output at ?
What model number and make is the television ?
What type of cable is being used from the rf modulator to the tv ?
Is it a video cable or a proper 75 ohm impedance coaxial cable
what is the impedance of the rf modulator output is it 75 omhs and what is the impedance of the tv is it 75 ohms or is it 300 ohms if it is 300 ohms on the television ( usually antenna is a ribbon cable screwed onto the back of the tv rather than a coaxial socket ) different you need a balun

I am recommending your first point of problem trouble shooting first is to check the impedance of your television compared to the impedance of the rf modulator and compared to the impedance of the cable used. IF they do not match then power is lost and the signal won't get to the TV.

No RF out

Some VCR's have the ability to switch off the RF output. You should look under the tuning menu of the VCR.

Connecting magnavox dvd/vcr player DV220MW9 to a 40 year old TV

What type of Inputs do you have on your TV. (ANT IN, S-Videio, RCA Video,RCA Audio)

If you only have a ANT In or RF Coaxial hook up you will need a RF Modulator

Installing DVD player/RF Modulator with Star Choice

The RF modulator probably had a red, white, yellow trio of RCA jacks (A/V jacks), a coax jack marked "antenna" and another coax jack marked "TV"

Putting the DVD output to the A/V jacks allowed it to play out to the TV, which couldn't otherwise accept the DVD player.

The satellite box probably has coax and a/v jacks as output. Use the coax as output to the antenna input of the RF modulator, and the A/V jacks of the DVD player to the A/V jacks of the RF modulator. Hopefully the modulator allows the A/V jacks to have priority over the coax input, so that when the DVD plays it "wins"

RF Modulator

The RF modulator changes the outputs from RCA (red, white, and yellow) to a Coaxial Cable (COAX).

You connect the DVD players RCA outputs to the RCA Inputs on the RF Modulator, then connect the COAX Output from the RF Modulator to the television.

Best of Luck.
