Removing flywheel from chipper-shredder model number 247-775870

The flywheel takes a puller, but you should not have to do that just to sharpen the blades.

Y shaft bearings may have seized up. good luck.

Use a spark tester and make sure there is no spark.If there is not then you need a new ignition coil.Take the side cover off and you will find the coil above the flywheel.remove the two screws and the wires to get it out.when you replace it you will have to set the air gap at .010-.012.most of the time when you buy anew one it comes with a guage with it.if not take a piece of metal or thin piece of cardboard that measures the right size.put new one back on .you should be able too slide it up and snug the screws enough to hold it in place then put your gauge in between the coil and flywheel.turn the flywheel until the magnet is in line with coil.loosen screws and the magnet will pull down the coil on top of gauge.tighten screws and rotate the flywheel to get gauge out.

I note your looking for the Super Tomahawk. If you can come up with a model number I think I can find your parts manual for sure. (or at least an on-line parts list.) Also.... If you can come up with an engine number like OH120 or L90 off of the engine I can find you a manual for the engine also.

For safety remove the spark plug and disconnect it from the plug wire. Tilt the machine back and rotate the blade by hand and make sure it clears the mower deck all the way around. Check to see if blade is tight. Any movement of the blade on the shaft is unacceptable. Tighten blade, if it won't start with blade tightened it may have sheared the flywheel key.

Interesting question --
I just picked up one of these over the weekend, and was able to get the flywheel off with minimal excitement. After removing the center bolt from the flywheel, I used a hammer to "encourage" the flywheel off the keyed shaft from the back-- through branch feed hole in the housing. It took quite some time, and I rotated the flywheel as I did it to keep it from binding up, but it eventually came off.

As an aside, would you let me know if you've found any source for parts or documentation? I'm going to attempt some repairs on the flywheel and chipper blades, but may end up wanting to replace them.

47044 is a good model number for the 12HP Tomahawk Pro Chipper. The knife kit is part number 1772231MA.

There are a few different vendors selling this knife set on Ebay.

As there is a model number on the chipper there should be a model number on the engine. You may have to stand on your head to find it but, it's there.
