The Leapster turns on and the sign in screen comes up but the touch screen does not work. I also can't get the touch screen to recalibrate by pressing the small blue button, hint, and pause button simultaneously - the game just pauses.

i have the same problem.. but i haven't call them yet...

  • snopws Dec 23, 2008

I have the same issue with my son's Leapster. I even ordered a NEW stylus.....was told that was what the problem was. NOT!!!! We also have a LMAX and the Leapster stylus works on the LMAX as well as the NEW stylus. Now we have 3 stylus and NONE of them work on the Leapster! I tried to recalibrate it but since the touch screen will NOT work I am unable to calibrate it!

    Any other ideas?

My daughter's Leapster 2 has the same problem. I have tried recalibrating it but it does not accept me touching the top left cross stitch target. I restarted it...same problem. The menu for the name comes up and makes a clicking sound when you touch the screen. I just put new batteries in. We are going on vacation soon and need this fixed!

You are AWESOME!!! My poor kids haven't been able to play with their leapsters in over a year and I almost just tossed them because both of their screens went out a while ago (after less than a year of use). It worked!!!! YAY!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Tore the last one up thinking the touch screen was bad. Decided to read on this one. I wonder why it looses its calibration? Still would think that the screen would respond?

I had purchased the leapster 2 for my son for christmas, the touch screen is not working now.It turns on but u are not able to do anything with it.What should I do?

Change the batteries to all new ones of the same brand. Most of the rechargeable ones are not powerful enough. My kids have that problem every time the batteries get low.

The pen has stopped working when touching the screen

If your Leapster 2 will turn on, but the touch screen is not responding to the stylus, try re-calibrating the stylus with the screen using the steps below: 1. Turn your Leapster 2 off, and remove the game cartridge.
2. Hold down the 'hint' button while the game is off. The 'hint' button is the middle small button in the row of three above the directional pad on the left, with a '?' on it.
3. With your finger still firmly on the 'hint' button, turn the Leapster 2 back on. Keep your finger on the 'hint' button.
4. The screen should be displaying the calibration screen. You can release the 'hint' button now.
5. Press the 'A' button on the right to enter the calibration screen.
6. A small '+' sign will appear on the screen. Touch it with the stylus. A new '+' sign will appear. Touch this with the stylus too, and repeat for as many '+' signs as your Leapster 2 throws at you.
7. The screen will return to the calibration screen. You can now turn the machine off. Leave the cartridge out of the console, and turn it back on.
8. Your stylus and touch screen should now be working, enabling you to sign in as usual.
9. If it is working correctly then you can turn it off, add a game cartridge and turn it back on
Thank you for using fixya! I hope I had helped you with your problem. May you have a good day!

I have leapster l-max and am having trouble with the stylus working. when i try to calibrate, i can't click on center targets

Leapster L-Max recalibrates differently. I was trying to use the instructions and it kept asking for a blue button. For the Leapster L-Max push B, A, Hint, and Home when you turn it on. Do not have a cartridge in the player or it will think it is a regular Leapster. Once it says calibrate screen it will say to press A, then wait until a target appears in the upper left hand corner, touch it and you should hear a sound, then a new target appears in the lower left hand, repeat actions, then lower right hand screen, and finally the upper right hand screen. If it stops at any time and doesn't get more arrows, try it again or turn it off and see if the pen works. It may take several times to get it working again.

When my daughter touches any object with the pen nothing happens. It will keep telling you to touch a picture on the screen with your pen.

You need to recalibrate. Try pushing B, A, Hint, and Home when you turn it on. It may take a few tries to get it to recalibrate correctly.

My leapster pen wont' work

I found out how to re-calibrate it. By holding down the 'hint' button while turning it on then choosing the 'touch calib' option...you then have to touch the bullseyes on the screen. Turn it off and back on again and it should work.

Leapster

To determine if there is an issue with the touch screen, you need to
follow these steps:-
* Turn on the unit and select any user.
* Select 'Option' from the keypad.
* Then select 'Configuration'.
* Scroll down to select 'Diagnostics”.
* Scroll down again and select 'Touch Screen Test”.

If you can complete the 'Touch Screen Test ', it implies that there is no issue with the touch screen. The most effective way to use the touch screen is to select using the tip of the finger or with a blunt end of a pen or a stylus. However, if you cannot complete the touch screen test, it would imply that there is a problem with the touch screen.
