If you have Direct TV you will not need a converter box. However that does not mean that Direct TV will provide all of the digital channels that are available in your area. If you want to receive all of the digital channels you may need to purchase a converter box and switch between Direct TV's box and the converter box.

For example, in many cities stations may have 3 or 4 digital channels running but Direct TV is only offering the main channel. In order to watch the alternate channels you would need to unplug the Direct TV box from your TV and plug in a digital converter box.

If you sign up for the $40 coupon currently offered by the Federal government, you can get a converter box for next to nothing. Prices of the basic converter boxes range from about $40 to $90.

Nope. Not a digital Television. I'm guessing it's an older one. Most TV's sold nowdays are Digital TV ready.

DirectTV already does the digital switching. You should be okay with the receiver box with the satellite.

I have an older Sharp Aquos TV - model # LC-32G4U. I am trying to connect a digital antenna but it doesn't work. Anyone know if I need a separate digital tuner for this TV? Or what else might be t

There is no difference between a "digital" and analog antenna. Either antenna will capture the signal. What you need is a digital converter box to convert the over air digital signal to the older analog type signal your TV needs. You connect the antenna to the digital converter box, and the digital converter box to the TV.
Several years ago, the US government forced peopel to buy digital converter boxes or newer TVs that could pick up the digital signal. Either get a digital converter box or a new TV.

Hi, I have a sony bravia tv ( klv20G300A) which was bought in Hong Kong about3 years ago . I haven't been able to get it to work with the uk digital signal. I am wondering about it's compatibility-...

This tv has analog tuner and you need digital tuner in tv to get digital signal in UK, alternate way is to hook cable box with this tv that will convert digital signal into AV output that will connect to AV input of tv to get cable channels.

Is the tv that I have bought about 6 years ago ready for DTV?

6 year old tv probably not digital ready. The converter box will work if tv is on channel 3 and you use a UHF antenna. Most converter box connections have 75 ohm connectors, your tv may have the round connector to accept the input signal. If you have screw on terminals on the tv you will have to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a matching transformer to go between the tv and the converter box. UHF antenna can be made out of a coat hanger. Just make a circle clean the paint off ends and attach. Or just buy a digital booster antenna at WalMart.

Does my tv have a digital tuner (RCA Model E13320, 2/2001)?

The digital tuner has nothing to do with the new signal you will be receiving in February of next year. The new video signal is a digital signal. The old video signal is analog. Your television receives the analog signal and converts it to what you see on television. You need a converter box to convert the new digital signal back to an analog signal your television can convert.

Receive one channel with Coverter Box

Make sure those 6 channels are also being broadcast in Digital format also, otherwise your converter box won't have a digital signal to convert for your TV. The switchover date is early next year I believe.

Digital signal conversion

If you have cable TV, satellite TV, or FIOS, the coupon eligible converter boxes aren't needed and aren't useful with those services.
They gov't coupon converter boxes are only good for reception with a regular TV antenna or rabbit ears.

According to the specs on epinions.com, no, this TV does not have a digital tuner. So, if you use a rooftop TV antenna (not satellite dish) or an indoor TV antenna, you WILL need an ATSC to NTSC converter box. You need not wait until next year, however, as most U.S. TV stations are also broadcasting digital (ATSC) now.
