Connect audio cables from the audio out jacks on your tv to the audio in jacks on your samsung surround. they may be labeled video 1,2 or aux. if your using a cable box the cable box may have optical or digital input jacks. your samsung surround should have a digital in jack which requires an optical cable.

check if there is a pro logic control on the syatem to split the audio from the FL and FR and send some audio to the other speakers.siulated surround from a stereo input is the only way unless you use 2 single rca to 3way spliter and join that up to the 6 channe input if your unit has one.

I have no sound through my surround sound when playing ps3

The optical audio out from the TV only works for the TV's tuner, probably. Hook-up optical from Cable/SAT and from PS3 boxes to DVD/Receiver.

My Samsung TV picture is supplied via a HDMI lead

yes you need to connect audio out from the tv to audio in on the dvd surround. you need the red/white phono to phono leads, simply connect together and select audio (av,au) on the input selection.

CAN I PLAY THE DVD PLAYER WITH SOUND THROUGH MY TV WITHOUT HAVING THE SPEAKERS CONNECTED?

You can set up your tv in this way. Hook up your dvd player directly to your tv and then hook up your surround sound reciever from the audio out jacks from the back of your tv. This should allow you to use either your tv volume or the surround sound feature. Hope this helps

Have you gone through your onkyo receivers setup manual. You will most likely need to adjust the settings on your Onkyo receiver. I also have an onkyo reciever and I have to assign the inputs to the video source. Being that you got sound out of the front speakes. I am assuming when you were playing out of the dvd player your reciever was only on stereo sound. Once I get feedback I can assist you further

Surround sound for DVDs.

If your DVD disc supports it, you will have to enable surround sound from the DVD, as well as the speakers.
