3D Extrude and Bevel in Illustrator CS 3

I am trying to apply Illustrator's 3D extrude and bevel effects to 2 pie charts that I created in Illustrator. The first pie chart (with only 3 segments) worked fine. However, the second pie chart (with 8 segments) is taking on a 3D appearance, but the 3D edge is black rather than taking on the colors of each segment. I thought that it had something to do with the number of segments in the pie chart, but I tried it on other pie charts with 7, 6, 5, 4, and another one with 3 segments. Unfortunately none of them worked correctly. Also, the values in the bevel and extrude dialog box were identical for the pie chart that turned out fine and the others that did not. Any ideas?

Chances are you have chosen 'stroke' color as 'blank/empty' in the first pie chart, and 'stroke' color as 'black' in subsequent charts, by mistake. So as a result the charts are having a black outline. You simply have to select 'stroke' or 'outline' color as blank as you did in the first chart. Colors can be chosen in the 'swatches' palette, either for 'fill' or 'stroke' or both. Hope this solves the problem.

Re: Hitachi C12FDH single bevel compound miter saw. Bevel setting reads 0 degrees but it is not. I'm trying to install baseboards. Every bevel cut angles in from top to bottom about 1/8". How to fix?

Most saws of this type plus many others need checking and if necessary calibrating when delivered and from time-to-time during use.

There are usually adjustable stops and often moveable scales so when checked against known accurate squares and angles suitable adjustments can be made. Sometimes the stops aren't adjustable and metal must be removed by filing or added by bonding a suitable shim.

One point of concern with many saws of the type is the position of the handle is often offset from the centre line of the pivot with the result; the force needed to overcome the resistance of the return spring is also offset and tends to twist the mechanism during the cut - the typical mechanism is not usually strong enough or built with sufficient precision to completely resist the twisting force which often results in a less than accurate cut even though the angle has been accurately set.

Knowing this the user can compensate by holding the handle differently or applying a twisting force in the opposite direction. With practice you will become familiar with the tool...

The bevel lock on my rigid ms1250lz wont unlock

Be sure that the miter lock knob is loose. Follow the instructions that were provided

.BEVEL LOCK KNOB

BEVEL STOP PIN
The bevel stop pin has three positions:
1. Override (pin pulled completely out)
2. The 0 - 45 position (middle position)
3. The 0 - 48position for crown molding (pin pushed in)

Do you lay the handle long wise against the wall or the end of the handle??

A sliding bevel is used for transferring an angle. What matters is the angle created between the handle and the slider. For example, if you wanted to cut a piece of wood to fit in a corner but that corner is not 90 degrees true. You would loosen the nut, place the center of the bevel in the corner so the edge of the handle lays flat on one wall and the edge of the slider is flat against the other wall. Tighten the screw on the bevel. Now you can lay the bevel on the piece to be cut and mark the exact cut line so the finished piece will fit perfectly.
The sliding T bevel can also be used for setting an angle by using it with a protractor. lay the bevel on a protractor, lock the screw in place at the desired angle, then lay the bevel on the work piece and mark the cut.
