Most people point to control board but how do I check for an underlying cause. I do not want to order a $300 board just to blow it again. Thanks
Trolling motors can be a bit sensitive to voltage drops which is why Minn Kota customer service reps will always ask about wiring and battery health when troubleshooting.
Prior to a visit to a Minn Kota Certified Service Center you may want to try:
1. Load test on batteries
2. Test the voltage at the motor
You might also want to try the troubleshooting section in the product manual for Legacy PowerDrive models. Page 16 in the manual below:

If your model has legacy i-Pilot, you may also want to take a look at the troubleshooting section starting on page 64 of the Legacy i-Pilot manual at the link below:

it has an electrical connection problem... check all the connections on the pedal control. your loosing connection making it die and when you kick it it connects again... look for a frayed wire. or a corroded connnection.

I dont know how old your battery is but they will sometimes show full charge but not last long cause of age. Try a differant battery.

. Yes it could. some are vacuum powered, cable powered (mechanically) or electric powered. If the valve does not open. The hot water will not get to the heater core. It could also be the thermostat not opening.

i would start where it plugs into the boat.check for electric there. if you have juice to the plug, then the problem is in the pedal itself.could have corrosion on wires or broken wire.you should be a ble to see which wires would be bad...
