Hi I have a minnkota I pilot. I use with a remote control. For some reason there is power going to it but won't anchor lock or turn left or right. What could be the problem

I have a terrova with i pilot same thing happened found out it was the remote, if thats not it then you will more than likely have to send it in for repair.

Use a gear puller.

take off the top cover on the head of the motor and see if there are any restrictions to the movement of the cable. it may be the cable itself is rusted internally and may need replacement. call min kota on the 800 number on the motor for prices for any patrs you may need.

Some common issue with these are as follows.
The polarity some how got reversed, either when changing batteries or chaging them. A ligning strike can cause an issue like this as well, it doesn't need to hit the boat cause a problem just close by is enough.
There is a magneto that can short out as well, minn kota can supply a replacement if yours is arcing.
Can also be something as simple as the switching relay,, or a bad pin / wire in the plug,, or it could be a bad servo motor.
the best way to trouble shoot the unit would be to open the case and use volt meter to trace the voltage flow. also make sure you are getting power to and thru the remote as I have seen the control buttons go bad.
Take the side panel off the part of the trolling motor that actually is bolted to the bow of the boat--this panel contains a sealed circuit board with a small antenna attached; see if anything looks burnt or otherwise not normal.
Last but not least, are the batteries in the co-pilot good?

The new cost of your motor is nearly 1000 dollars, presumably there are comprehensive instructions on installation to minimise the risk of damage which could be very expensive. In particular damage to the motor control circuits due to incorrect fusing.

The drive motor or gear solenoid could be bad.

your magneto is shorting [ arcing on high needs, openup and replace magneto. call minkota and order a new magneto for your model, unless under warrantee.
