well, I had a similar problem once, I managed to get the unit to relaod the map data using my repair dvd but I cannot guarantee this will work in your case. if your unit still has the basic operating system intact, you shoudl be able to boot it with the firmware update in the SD card and it will load, however, someone else told me they were not able to do this becasue the unit would never try to boot from the SD card. it was basically a brick.
One solution is to visit C&C
wireless and pay over $100 for a map update or even send them your unit for even more $. see

DVD with map data I purchased from them before they closed and I added much better instructions; this DVD updates the firmware in the unit and loads the last map data issued to the SD card. you would need a PC with a DVD drive and SD card reader to use it. you can find these
DVDs on ebay for $18 which basically covers my costs only.
