I'm sorry, you can't can in ANY electric pressure cooker. Stove-top pressure cookers can be used if the instruction booklet calls it a pressure cooker /canner AND it is at least 10qts (the minimum sizes tested for pressure canning by the USDA).

You didn't mention the brand of pressure cooker you have, but the most common is Cook's Essentials (other brands may have different meanings to their errors). For this cooker E1 means that there is a broken circut to the sensor. The manufacturer recommends un-plugging the pressure cooker and letting it cool, and then trying again. I purchased a Philippe Richard 6 qt pressure cooker and the second time I used it I noticed steam venting out of the pressure handle lock. later I stepped on something in the floor. it was the aluminum part for the pressure lock. I didassembled the handle but don't know how to get the part back in place, please advise. thank you
