If I DO NOT want to use the self cleaning feature is there any other safe way, including using soap and water, to clean the oven without ruining it? (I don't want to use the self cleaning feature)

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

I don't blame you from not using self clean feature.
A good alternative is a soaking wet towel with soap covering entire bottom of oven.

Raise the heat enough to create a steam, and shut off This will penetrate the build up where it will come off in layers, and may need a couple treatments of the same.

Hi,

  1. Oven door : Wash the door and window with soap and water and rinse with clear water. Use glass cleaner only if sprayed on a cloth first. Do not use abrasive pads, powdered cleaners, or steel wool on glass and enamel, or the surfaces will be scratched.
  2. surface burner : To absorb a spill when it is hot, pour salt on it and wipe it up when the oven has cooled. A mildly abrasive baking soda and water paste can be used in the oven, too.
  3. Racks:Remove oven racks and clean them in warm, soapy water. Stubborn messes can be cleaned by using mild abrasive cleansers or a soap filled scouring pad. Rinse and dry the racks before returning them to the oven.
  4. Metal trim:Metal trim can be cleaned with glass cleaners or mild cleansers, soap and water. Abrasives or cleaners made for oven interiors should not be used.
Thanks
Smith.

I have an older Roper by Whirlpool self cleaning oven. It does not have a door lock or timer. Do I just close the door and turn the oven to clean and it will indicate when the cycle is done?

Never ever use the features of a Self Cleaning Oven. We see the damage they do here on Fixya, and the worst is the door not unlocking, and the most expensive is when they fry the mainboard.

They all have a door interlock. If you were to open it when it was running, it would frizz your eyebrows!

Big white spot in the oven, who disappears when wet

Ah, well that's you problem, Number 1 Tip, never EVER use the Self Cleaning Cycle. So many questions here on Fixya are because the self cleaning cycles has caused broken door catches, and even fried control boards. The whole idea of this gimmick is to sell spares and keep service agents in business when they break . The temperature of approximately 932 °F (500 °C) is just too hostile.

The self cleaning instructions for my Frigidaire Gallery Pro Series Model FEB798WCCH do not inform how long to set timer. Any instructions would be helpful as I've never operated a self cleaning oven...

Hello- The function is automatic when clean button is pushed. Oven will lock, and turn on at full power for about 90 mins. This 'feature' can, and usually does eventually burn out circuits in the control board. Techs call this the 'self-destruct' option, cheerfully promoted by the salesman. Avoid using 'self clean'!  Scrape and clean with light soap/water. Turn on to 450deg. for about 30 min. This is about half the temp. of a 900deg. 'clean' cycle and a lot less expensive in the long run. Please acknowledge this post if info is helpful- have more if needed.- Thanks- Ed

Just use some easy off and do not use the self clean feature. Clean it the old fashioned way. Self clean ruins expensive electronics.

Your oven heats up to over 800 degrees when you self clean it. ONLY clean it when it's very dirty and when you do, you risk the power outage of many electronic parts, so try NOT to self clean it, if you can get away with it. Hope this answers your questions. Call me if I can help. Ella
