Lost cd-rom for brother HL-2170W. I need to connect a new laptop to the printer on my wireless network and can't figure out how to do it! It's running Windows XP Pro.

Steps to Brother hl-l2340dw Wireless Setup: Open the crate for your new printer and remove every one of the stickers. Counting the one with some entertaining guidelines about delicately shaking the print cartridge side to side.

Lost cd rom
Without knowing the operating system I can't give you the exact link to the software. However if you go to this site, and input the relevant information (OS and Language) you will be able to download the software installers which will set up your printer for you

Your Printer is connected to the (network) router via ethernet cable. Hence, it is a NETWORK PRINTER NOT A WIRELESS DEVICE, no matter your PC is connected to the network wirelessly. So, search for and install the printer as a NETWORK PRINTER. From the printer installation, it should searh and find the printer and susequently install the required drivers.
Moreover, you may checkout the followings link for instructions on how to install/ add a network printer.

Should be able to set all computers to default to Brother printer in the preferences section of the printer control panel ( look in 'control panel' of computer). You ca n also download manual from Brother website. Just type make and model + word Manual into search engine, and it should throw up the appropriate link.

We just got two brother hl 2170w printers from a lab across campus, they were configured for a wireless connection and now we are trying to connect them to the network via a wired connection. the test page...
hi there, this should work for you:

When you disconnect an Ethernet cable from the printer, wireless network will be enabled.
On the other hand, when the Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, wired network is enabled.

If you press the Go button for approx. 13 seconds, the network setting page will be printed out. Then release the Go button, wired network will be switched to wireless network even if the Ethernet cable is still connected.

You can then verify your network settings and change between wired and wireless setups.

Please check that, can you go online with any wireless computer,if you can go online with that, then try to reconnect your wireless printer again (if can't go online then check wireless router)

2170W wireless connection to mac computers
My suggestion would be to connect an ethernet cable from the printer to the router. This is a more stable connection for the printer on the network.

All of your wireless computers will be able to connect to it and print to it as long as they are connected to the network.

To get the printer back in wired mode, you will need to reset the printer and network card of the printer.

1. Turn off power
2. Hold down go Button while switching back on
3. Wait 2 secondes before letting go and press the go button 8 times quickly
4. Wait for the unit to finish warming up
5. Repeat steps 1 and 2
6. Wait 2 secondes before letting go and press the go button 7 times quickly this time
7. Wait for the unit to finish warming up then plug in the ethernet cable.

Hl-2170w brother is offline
I just realized what my problem was with this same situation..."Off line". Do the following:

1. Reset the printer to factory default settings: turn off, turn on holding down blue button; after all LEDs light-up release button; All LEDs with go out then flash once.
2. Hook up the printer to an open port on your wireless HUB.
3. Install Brother software (note: go to programs/brother HL-2170 and select remove software prior to reinstalling)
4. Here is the catch: MAKE sure to select the correct encryption code. I was selecting TKIP instead of AES and two things happened...1) the computer did not pick up the printer on the network scan, and 2) the printer will remain off-line.

Once i selected AES, the computer found the printer on the network and viola' no more problems.

I then added my wireless laptop: installed drivers only, the programs scanned and found the printer on the wireless network and that was it. Now both computers are wireless!

Lost instalation cd for brother HL-2170w laser printer
So far as I can tell, the actual wireless setup software is not available for download at Brother's web site. The part number for ordering a replacement disk at brothermall.com is LU2442001.
