SOURCE: We have a Siemens Surpresso S40, giving 'error 8'

Error 8 indicates a technical fault. Try switching off the main switch for about 1 minute and then start it up again. If the error message persists, you will have to have the machine serviced. The most common fault would be that the machine is blocked.

SOURCE: F18 error message siemens washing

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

For most models- you do not say which yours is- Bosch's 'F18' states 'drainage (filter) problem.
I advise you read through these guidance notes and check the filter AND the operation of the drain pump itself- it could be jammed.

Following are my complete and hopefully 'coverall' pre-typed guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
John C

Microsoft updates

Most of the time when updates cannot be installed, is because you have installed a file that is newer than the one provided by Microsoft, or you already have the "update" and Microsoft gives you the error.

Essentially when your computer communicates with the Windows Update website. It uses TWO technologies called:
Active X - to interact with the Microsoft site. The first time you visit the Update website, using your profile, you are asked if you will accept the Windows Update Control Package (the Active X control) onto your machine.
SSL (Secure Socket Layer) - A method of data encryption used by Internet Explorer.
Now this general error message 0x800A138F, that some folks get when they visit Windows Update, has been around for a while. BUT, when the MSBlast virus was unleashed Microsoft changed a few things at the main update website. One of them was to use Akamai for additional bandwidth and this connectivity is exclusively using HTTPS (SSL) for the downloading of the update catalogue. It is since then that we have seen an escalation in the number of 0x800A138F error messages!
The following steps will help many of you... BUT
What would be REALLY helpful to anyone trying to support you, is if you go to the "Windows Update Log" and look for any "Errors". This gives a clearer indication as to the exact nature of the problem. (The 0x800A138F error message is a "General" error THE real error number is in the log. A list of possible error messages is in a table at the bottom of this page.)
The windows update log is in the following places:
C:\Windows\Windows Update.log (Win XP & Win98/Me)
C:\WINNT\Windows Update.log (Windows 2000)
Just copy and paste the above in Windows Explorer to open the log file...
