The Remington ES-1000 was probably the best slot-head shaver ever made by Remington. I cannot believe that the market demand was so low as to prompt a cancellation of production. I believe that the production run was limited to about 4 years or so. I have 8 of these shavers and keep a couple old Remington slot heads around as well. The ES-1000 was not perfect. The batteries were way too small and stressed so battery life was poor. You could not buy individual blades as you could with past Remington slot-head units. Also, the edge of the head was too exposed and sharp and when used for body shaving would tend to cut the skin.Slot-head shavers are superior for body shaving and for skin that is suseptible to shaving bumps. They are also great for young men that are prone to ingrown hairs. My guess is that the Norelco 3 head has taken it's place. Those shavers actually use 3 small slot heads. Rumor has it that shavers.com is trying to have a new slot head manufactured in Asia.
I converted my Panasonic ES8003 to a slot-head shaver. The ES8003 has a single slot-head strip sandwiched between two foil heads. I literally tore out the two foil screens and removed the two cutting blocks that run under the foils. Instant slot-head shaver! I've been using this solution for the last eight years. I go over my face in a first pass with the modified slot-head shaver. I then use a separate foil shaver for additional closeness on areas that will tolerate it. I have found that the small foil shavers that come with beard grooming kits (Remington, in particular) work very well. They seem to irritate the skin less than full-size foil shavers, which are perhaps too powerful. Both the slot-head and the foil are useful - they just don't really work optimally at the same time. So shave in two steps. The battery in my ES8003 is on the wane (after ten years of very reliable service). I'm trying to find a replacement battery. I'm also looking at the possibility of "converting" the Panasonic ES8103S, which also has a single slot-head strip sandwiched between two foil heads...

i agree, so frustrating! anyone have a legit substitute for this that does not cause any razor burn? my skin is super sensitive so i cant shave with a blade but find that most electric razors cause too much razor burn as well. i am really not as concerned with the ultimate close shave but more in comfort and NO razor burn! any help would be wildly appreciated!
This shaver is a five star shaver and is has been the very best for my face and yes I really don't understand why Remington stop making the all time best shaver and military men user this shaver and we all need replacement parts the sp-33 and how can we get them to start making this shaver again.
