Wont read any type of disc

first is check if dvd or just cd rom u have..if its is cd rom definitely you cannot read any type of dvd disc.if it is a dvd rom, how old is you dvd rom?all dvd rom even cd rom even its is a writer or reader only have limitation on the lens usage.maybe it reaches the limit of usage.if thats the case you have to replace or buy a new one..

Well first of all depending on the type of media you are using can be a problem. If you are trying to read a DVD and you only have a CD reader that would be a problem. Now if it wont read any. You will need to replace it with a new cd/dvd rom.

Get pure stuff....the rubbing type leaves a glare on glass and plastic lenses.
Also ,the chrome rails that the laser moves along need to be cleaned and lubed with liquid silicone.
This method clears read problems most of the time.

when a disk reader refuses to spin, sometimes it might be from the motor mechanism that allows it to spin when you insert a disk inside the disk reader is damaged that's might be the reason it does not spin.

You can check both the lens and the mechanism to be such which needs to be replaced.

if its a 40gb or 80gb ps3 and you try and put ps2 games in then that wont work, otherwise take the ps3 to a shop and find out the problem, if the ps3 doesnt read any type of disk there is a serious problem and you should really get it checked out

If you dropped it, then the reader may be a little messed up. If the case around the disc is popped open a little bit, closing it all the way might stop the disc from spinning, resulting in not reading the disc. i think you have to clean the disk reader call sony they will tell you waht to do
