Not able to scan for digital OTA channels on a JVC LT-32X667 LCD

I've had this TV hooked up to an HD cable box (using the TV's "component" inputs) for several years and everything has worked just fine. Last week I moved the TV to my guest cottage which has no cable service. After hooking up an external (rooftop) antenna, I attempted to scan for the local OTA HDTV channels. The analog channel scan went as it should. (Of course, there were no analog channels to be found!) Once the analog portion of the scan was completed, however, the screen went blank and no digital channels were ever detected. I tried unplugging the set and plugging it back in, etc. all to no avail. Does anyone know what's wrong with the digital tuner on my JVC LT-32X667?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes, I most definitely selected "air" and not "cable" on the JVC's drop down menu.

    Thank you.

Are you sure that you selected off the air channel scanning as opposed to cable channel scanning?

Seeing as it does not have a digital tuner in it, I would think this would be the problem, you will have to get a box for it.

I have the same model and it certainly does have an ATSC/QAM digital tuner for OTA reception. Mine has been plagued with problems of the digital tuner since I had it though - now it refuses to change to a digital channel other than #39.1

HDMI input works ok. Hooked up external antenna. Did channel scan. It will only scan for analog channels. Has analog raster on screen. It has no information on menu page for digital channel scan.

do you have the air option in the scan menu see
http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/sanyo/dp42841.html
page 9 important fact cable digital gets wiped by air digital channels

You may be able to get around this via a digital hd tv decoder box and then have it on a hdmi input on the TV as a backup to the cable if you can't have both cable digital channels stored and aerial digital channels stored

Why my jvc television hd61z456 not showing in high definition

What is the signal source that you are watching on your HD61Z456?
The problem you describe usually happens when you aren't using an HD source or have downgraded the signal by the composite input on your TV. (Composite cables only support 480i SD signals.)

You will only see 720p HD content from HD sources, if you use HD compatible inputs. Some OTA channels are also broadcast as only analog signals (usually the -2 and higher sub-channels). If you have cable or satellite, make sure that you have the HD programming and have tuned to the HD version of the channel.

The HDMI and component inputs both support HD signals.

I hope this helps. If you are watching an HD source and the problem persists, I recommend trying new video cables. Next, check if you are getting interference from your devices by using a cable with a Ferrite core. See http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=102&cp_id=10240 for HDMI cables with Ferrite cores. The cores help block interference. If you have very long cable runs, check the behavior with shorter cables between the source and the TV.

(I am assuming you aren't using an SD set top box (VCR, older cable box, low end digital-to-analog converter).)

I need to connect my vcr/dvd combo unit to an Emerson HD TV so that I can record shows. Can you help me?

Most TVs only have audio out and several audio/video in connections. Unless you have an unusual tv, there is no option for a coax connection from the TV to a recorder.

Since this DVD recorder only has an analog tuner, you need to connect it to a set top box to record signals unless you are looking only at analog channel sources. If you are getting OTA, then a OTA digital-to-analog tuner is needed for most channels. (Only low power stations are still broadcasting in analog.) The cheaper ones that were available with the government coupon were SD tuners. HD content will need a separate tuner. If you have cable or satellite, check the signal (QAM is digital cable).

Next connect the coax from your analog source to the DVD recorder coax in and another coax cable to the coax out and the TVs coax in (if you want to - the pass through doesn't work with a set-top box for non-analog signals). Set the channel to the appropriate one (3 or 4 for the OTA d-t-a boxes; desired channel to watch for analog OTA or cable). Set the TV to channel 2, 3 or 4. Alternatively, use composite A/V cables from the set top box to the A/V Input of the DVD recorder and set the recording channel to Input 1.

Next connect A/V cables (composite or S-video) to the recorder's matching out to the TV A/V or S-video In. Set the TV to A/V 1 or Video 1 depending on the Emerson TV. You can watch tapes or DVDs. For better video quality on DVD playback, also connect component video cables from the DVD recorder Out to the TV's component in (if it is available). Then set the TV to the appropriate component video input when watching DVDs.

I hope this helps.

For example, if the cable or satellite box is connected via component cables please press input and select Component 1 or Component 2 to view your channels. If you are using cable connected directly to the TV: 1.Press MENU. I purchased a SANYO-DP46848 42"HDTV. I have a Cable box and my cable provider (Time Warner Cable) provides free HD Channels. However.... I CANNOT PICKUP ANY HD CHANNELS ON THE NEW TV. WHY???...

I just got the same exact one, when it searches automatically the first time it doesn't look for digital channels. go to Menu>manual channel search>cable. it will look for all possible signals and will take forever probably. the free digital channels will take several seconds to switch channel to channel, but they're there! They will show up on your screen as "DC 91-2" or similar. you can switch back to regular cable channels with the input button, you just cycle through all the inputs. hope that helps.

Maxent lcd

Your TV is an "HD-Ready" television. What this means is that your TV is ready to accept HD input from an outside source, but doesn't have the ability to produce the content itself. It is a monitor and does not have a digital tuner. Without a digital tuner (or for cable a QAM tuner) you will not receive OTA broadcast HD.

You need to purchase a High Definition capable set-top converter box. The converter box will have HD component out and may have HDMI out, either will feed your HD Ready TV.
