SecurErase wont work, cannot erase hardrive, wont recognize any cds.

Gateway thought I had a bad hardrive, so I swapped it for another one. Was ok, until I tried to run restore disc.
Both hardrives now have window that wont recognize cd & let me even access my computer icon.
Message says: Check the contents of your CD-ROM, The Windows CD could not be found. There is no CD or wrong CD in your CD ROM ddrive.
Wont recognize restore disc, Windows, or even the SecurErase I bought to erase hard drive and start over.
Ever heard of anything like this? I'm pretty much knowin its something I did, like slipping in the wrong restore disc and muddying it up, short of running a huge magnet over the hardrives,,,,,,,any known way of erasing or bypassing the Window to recognize the CDs?

I also forgot to list an important try I did, & that was useing both PCs to test this out, in other words, after I swapped the original hard drives back into both computers, both of them showed the error message, so I beleive I may have corrupted the other (good)hardrive also, by slippipng in the wrong restore system cd.

use a windows startup disk to run a memory test.
Check for rootkit type of virus using Nortons power eraser.
If there is no rootkit virus then download Easeus freeware partition tool to check the partition.
Worst case is that you have Hardrive or IDE/SATA hardware failure

Hello, it looks like somehow the master boot record was erased from the hard drive, maybe viral? You mentioned the hard drive was recognized in the bios correct? If you need data from the hard drive the easiest way would be to pull the hard drive out and use an external hard drive enclosure to remove the data before you erase everything from the hard drive. If you dont need anything thing you can proceed to do a new install of Windows 7. Turn the computer on then hold alt and the f10 key to perform a factory recovery. This will erase everything and reinstall Windows 7. If this doesnt work then you will need a new hard drive and a bootable usb drive with Windows 7 on it. Hope this helps.

Boots up ok, downloads internet but crashes after five mins. blue screen appears with error message windows closing down. help

Hi,

3 possible reasons: You have a virus, your windows installation is corrupted or your hardrive is on its way out.

For the first 2 reasons, do a full recovery.

Last reason, get a new hardrive.

Thanks

Defunct cd drive

Thats ok my friend, What you have to do is that your system is selecting the kind of hardware that will work with it.
So u go online and find the same product and maker for the cds and harddrive ok
Or you get the cd drive out and check for Dusting the part both lens and some hollowed part of it ok
or the problem with that kind of cd you want to play may be a corrupted cd for the system.
Aright , make use of that and please, rate this Solution.
bye.
