Decided to investigate crackling in front left spkr of my Samsung tv. Turned out to be main board vibrating. I added bushings behind main board mounting screws- crackling gone!

If the sound FLUCTUATES up & down, try turning off the AutoVolume in the sound menu. You didn't say if it's one or all speakers crackling. Crackling is either a speaker or circuitry issue. Adjust the balance away from the speaker that crackles, if it stops, that speaker is probably "fried". If it still crackles, I'd turn off the speakers and run the sound thru a stereo for the quick, cheap fix. My Samsung (10+ years old to be fair) crackles due to a circuit issue but if I SMACK the left side speaker (behind which is the sound board and side panel connectors) it stops for a while. Maddening. I think I broke it squeezing it into the furniture it's in, pressing on the protruding RCA plugs. Dumb design.

Speakers make crackling sound and sound goes in and out.

If the sound crackles when the volume is turned up or down there may be an issue with the volume switch. If the volume is going up and down on its own, I would recommend that you need a new unit as the cost would be greater to fix, then to replace.

Sound comes and goes on the drive channel, and there is a strange crackling on the clean channel. i dont know if its the tubes, the speaker, or electronics.

Using a common lead pencil, gently tap on the smaller tubes in the unit, listening for noises and crackling to change and the drive channel changes.

It is normal to get a slight twang when doing this from the microphonics of the tubes, however, the crackling and up and down volume points to a bad tube.

Crackling sound on boot up. goes away after a while

Crackling sounds are from poor connections. As the system warms up, the heat causes expansion and the crackling stops. You should remove and reseat the board in its slot, remove and reseat all connections between the board and the speakers, mics, etc. and restart. The sounds should have stopped - or been reduced considerably.
