Dell 700m wont boot with new hdd

Bought new 320 gb hdd, clone software (ezgig). Cloned old disc onto new-won't boot. ezgig tech support says this happens with dell because of weird boot record.
Eventually, just backed up the data and did fixmbr and fixboot (recovery console0
Then reinstalled a fresh copy pof xp from dell recovery disc. Still won't boot
Checked contents of drive with recovery console (dir)-data seems to be there
Any thoughts about what's going on?

Hi

Need to know how far it boots, eg past cmos screen, ??Win screen

Also some laptops will only accept hard drives up to certain sizes. Check in the Bios as to whether that size drive is actually supported.

Cloned Drive won't boot on Dell 1600SC

If you are using an image made from the IBM and it has a different processor and the board specs are different that can cause the drive not to boot it will act like it is then go into a perpetual boot. I would try to re image it again to insure that is ok on the drive also check the board If one is and AMD and the other an Intel then that would be part of the problem.

I got a new hard drive for my dell dimension 2400. I have tried everything I know to do, jumpers to cable select, master. I know the hard drive works as I hooked it up along with my old drive and cloned...

Enter the BIOS (setup menu on power on) and then holddown the key and depress the then the keys insuccession. This will force the motherboard to load default settings and alsoforce the motherboard to redetect all IDE devices. Note: The selection for thefloppy drive will be set to ON. If you do not have one then you must disablefloppy in set up (BIOS) menu.

Clone the original Mac hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner onto a clean ( all data erased write all zero) and format the new drive the same as the original. After cloning the old drive try opening mezzo on the new cloned drive.

320 GB drive for PCXV RX560

i've personally ran into this once before with a gateway system and a WD drive. Have you tried another high capacity drive from a different manufacturer? Sometimes there are simply compatibility issues with some drives and boards. Also (even though i'm certain this isn't the case) sometimes when you do a direct clone you clone over information that is located on a bad sector from the original drive. you may want to consider running a hdd regeneration tool before doing a clone. This software can be found on Hiren's boot cd which is a free resource that i use daily. Not related to this particular issue i'm fairly certain but a good tip for the future.

hope this helps.

Cannot boot from Momentus Ultra ATA 160 GN HDD

it can only clone the windows files and folders there is other files located on a hidden system on the hard drive, when you install and new hard drive these file are fixed to the drive. to make a bootable drive you need to install these files from a windows disc then add clone files over the top so these files don't get deleted.

You can use AOMEI Partition Assistant to clone your 60 gb hard disk to your 160gb directly. you can also use it to migrate your os to another disk if you don't want to clone the entire disk. http://www.disk-partition.com/copy-disk-partition-wizard.html

Use a partition manager such as PartitionMagic to resize the cloned partition, that approach has always worked great for me.

WD Scorpio Black 320GB SATA drive

Halarious, I had the same problem yet I used norton ghost. At least you still show 160 gb. Mine went all the way to 60 gb. Here is what I had to do to reclaim the lost. I downloaded something called "Magic Boot Disk" It gave me the whole 320 back yet have not found good cloning software yet. Magic Boot Disc is freeware avaliable at http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2006.02.10-Magic-Boot-Disk/ Good luck cloning
