it can only clone the windows files and folders there is other files located on a hidden system on the hard drive, when you install and new hard drive these file are fixed to the drive. to make a bootable drive you need to install these files from a windows disc then add clone files over the top so these files don't get deleted.

you should download Seatools on a working machine.....its a diagnostic program for Seagate drives.

Let it scan the drive in question, because it sounds like it could possibly be bad. The jumper settings dont come into play when hooking it up via usb!

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check. No just plug it in to the extra plug on the board.

the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk,and remains active untill turned off. make sure that your RAM is securely seated test or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive make sure the connections are secure including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive)) make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ? hope this helps

It looks like your current drive is a 80GB 2.5" EIDE.
The maximum you could easily get is probably 320GB for $90-100.
The price is high as SATA drives are now the standard.
Have you considered getting a 2.5" 500GB external drive, connected by USB.
The external 2.5" drives are powered off the USB and need no other connections
It would be cheaper and give you more storage.

You wouldn't have the difficulty of opening up your laptop, and if it's working OK now it's best to leave it that way.

This is a typical hard drive failure scenario, please check if your computer has valid contract if so get your hard drive replaced.

If you have valuable data in your hard drive and willing to spend you can go for hard driver data recovery which is an expensive process.

Try connecting it to a different computer.

What software did you use for the cloning?
Ghost is the preferred method.
Be sure to choose a disk to disk clone, not a partition clone.
It sounds like you may have created a 20G partition and left 40G unallocated.
Partition Magic may also take care of the problem, if you have access to a copy.
