A sensor tube ( looks like a wire ) in front, at air inlet, is the temperature sensor and many times this sensor is poorly cared for and even broken off by people. It's my guess, this sensor may be the problem for it controls compressor cycling on and off.

If you have the temperature set too low and the unit can never reach that temperature it will never shut off. Need to match the unit room size to the unit to make sure it's even possible to reach that temperature

SOURCE: maytag window ac unit

Feel the motor and see if hes hot ...... spin the fan by hand and see if it spins freely  if not the bearings have seized up.   So either rebuild the fan motor simply by replacing the bearings and oiling them and that should fix your problem.    IF the fan spins freely   OHM out the fan  and make sure there is no shorts or openings in the fan.     if your fan motor checks out good both mechanically and electrically  then your next step is to check the capacitor and control board

SOURCE: 2 problems.. AC Comp cuts out. And Fan will not stop.

Unit#2 -Sounds like the contacts on the master switch are welded closed or the switch is broken, Replacing the switch should fix this unit.
#1 is a little more difficult to diagnose. The compressor is being taken off line by a circuit that protects the compressor from damage either; 1- liquid refrigerant getting back to the compressor which can be caused by something as simple as a clogged return air filter or evaporator coil on a heat pump or 2- overload situation caused by a bad condenser motor or a clogged condenser coil. The first thing you need to do is clean both coils and replace the filter,. Then check to be sure your getting good airflow across both coils. I think it's most likely an airflow issue I hope this resolves the problem GL!

SOURCE: Central air running all day and not cooling very well

Condensation by the compressor is okay, but if you see it icing up thats reason for concern. The indoor coils can freeze up if there is not enough air flow. Make sure most if not all the registers are open. Take tempature readings at the return and at a supply vent. There should be a 20-28 degree difference. If the difference is only in the teens you have a functional problem. Be sure to shade direct sunlight. And if it gets below 65 degrees at night be aware that if the A\C runs through the night it may block up with ice in the evaporative area. If outside temp reaches 100 degrees unit will run all day. Good luck

I have a fedders (piece of junk)3 1/2 ton 4 year old unit. It runs fine during the evening after it cools off, but during the day it constantly cuts off and on unless I am spraying it with water. As soon...

sounds like your compressor is overheating is the compressor sweating down the sides? If it is you may have an airflow problem clean filters, clean blower fan motor and the evaporator coil. if this does not work you will need to have someone put a set of manifold gauges on it to see if the proper pressures are where they need to be. Also you can check the amps on the compressor to see if it is sezing or if it is locking out. The compressor is getting to hot is the reason when you squirt water on it runs because you are cooling it down. have you cleaned the condensor coil? Your head and suction pressures will give you a good idea.

Our Fedders through-wall unit (A2T10F2B) turns on, and the fan works at various speeds, but the unit does not cool. What should we do?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The cause of not cooling can be Drain, Sensor or Electric Control might have gone bad. First of all you’ll need to check that the condensation drain is not clogged and is working fine. Also check that the thermostat sensor behind the control panel has not gone bad. The sensor should not be touching the coil but instead it should be near to it. Please check and adjust it. The thermostat sensor measures the temperature of incoming air into the evaporative coil. Due to malfunction of the sensor the AC will not cool normally. As the ACs are turned on and off frequently the fan controls and compressor may also go bad. Please also check that there is no corroded wire. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Fedders

if it is blowing at all, this narrows the field to a compressor issue, if the compressor is coming on, but not blowing cold it could be that the coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. They can appear clean from the outdside and be dirty on the inside.

I have a fedders window ac unit where the compressor will turn on sometimes and others will not. When I shut it down and restart later it usually will run for a while. What is wrong?

You could have dirty coils on the outside of the unit. You can clean them with compressed air, water hose or get a can of a/c coil cleaner. If you get coil cleaner you will still need the hose.

If the compressor only turns on after the units it's shut off then it is a control board problem (stuck relay)

Fedders Window AC Unit

I would try to start the unit with only the fan running at first. If it stays running then cycle on the compressor and see how it does. If the unit does not operate when compressor is turne on then we have to dig deeper into that.
