Printer detected a routers/access point problem. Does channel have to be changed on printer or what?

Hi,

You dont need to change any settings in Printer front panel if your printer is able to detect the Router and/or get connected.

If the printer is able to detect the router but not does not connect, you need to change the channel frequency to 11 in Router EWS ( from your PC )

Ip address wrong, showing 192.168.254.1

Hi,
Solution Overview
This article explains how you can avoid having to run the Wireless Configuration Utility or Wireless Setup Assistant (Macintosh) after making changes to the router's security settings. The need to change these settings can arise if users forget their network key/passphrase or router web server password or if you have security concerns.
Printer response to security settings changes
The printer will respond with a flashing orange (pattlnk_6172008_1844-orgblksml.gif) Wi-Fi indicator light after the following actions are performed on the network or router/access point (AP):

  • -A change to the Service Set Identifier (SSID) or network name.

  • -A change to the security type (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2 personal).

  • -A change to the security network key/passphrase.

  • -A hard reset of the router followed by entry of security values that are different from the original values.

  • -The printer is moved to a network (AP) that has different security values but already has installed drivers and created ports. NOTE: Port reconfiguration may be required in this case. Click here for instructions.

In order to rejoin (associate and authenticate) the wireless network (WLAN), the wireless client (printer) has to be reconfigured with the router's new SSID, security type, and network key. This requires connecting the USB configuration cable to the host computer and running the Wireless Configuration Utility or Wireless Setup Assistant to apply the new security settings on the printer's wireless network adapter.
Solution: Change the printer settings first
Change the security settings on the printer while it is still communicating on the network before making the changes on the router. Understand that this will cause a temporary change in the Wi-Fi indicator light from pattlnk_6172008_1952-tn_grnsolproof.jpg to pattlnk_6172008_1844-orgblksml.gif. After you have made equivalent changes on the router, the printer's Wi-Fi indicator light will return to pattlnk_6172008_1952-tn_grnsolproof.jpg.
Procedure: How to change security settings via the embedded web server
If you change your AP security settings frequently, this procedure is for you.

  1. Open your web browser application and enter the printer IP address into the web address field, i.e. http://ip_address.

  2. Click on Configuration.

  3. Click on Wireless.

  4. Enter the SSID, security type/encryption, and network key that will be used to configure the router.

  5. Click Submit.

Just replaced Netgear WebSafe router with Linksys WRT400N. Now, can't "see" printer in network nor can access it to change settings (or print). Have tried with ethernet cable straight to router and through...

Reset printer to factory settings according to manual. Plugged in ethernet cable directly to router. Ran BRAdmin which recognized printer and saw that IP address had been automatically set within new router range. Changed setting to STATIC. Deleted old printer definition from printer list and added updated definition using Printer Setup Utility. Printed test page from BRAdmin. Also printed file from Documents folder wirelessly. Changed printer settings in another laptop & was able to print wirelessly from there as well.

Printer is not working after changing the router

You have to update the username and the pw on the printer as well so the router will provide the signals the printer needs.

The office has a new router for the internet, now the agents can't print from their own computers...How can I fix this problem

Is this a network printer?
If it is a network printer was it configured with a static IP or is it using DHCP?
Is the router also the DHCP server for the office? If so is it configured to the same subnet as the old router?

Network printer are often configured to use a static IP because a lot of routers do not support reserved IPs and if the IP of the printer changes, nobody can print. In this case, I am just about willing to bet that the IP of the printer stayed the same but all the computers changed. This can happen if your old router was configured (for example) with an IP address of 192.168.0.1 - it would assign addresses of 192.168.0.2, 192,168.0.3 etc to the computers on the network. If the new router has an IP of 192.168.1.1, then it would hand out addresses of 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 etc to the computers.
192.168.0.x is a different network than 192.168.1.x (with a default subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)
This will cause a problem because the computers are on a different network from the printer (since its IP has not changed). The fastest and easiest way to fix this is to change the IP address of the router to be the same as the old router. Do not change the IP address of the printer unless you really feel like going around to all your computers and reconfiguring the printer ports.
