Re: messages. callers can leave a message that I can retrieve with *99 but messages no longer automatically go to the phone to be recorded and the alert activated. What do I do?

The only way I can retrieve messages is to go to *99. That doesn't alert me to the fact that I have messages. I want messages to go to a preset message that shows on the LCD and beeps until I check it out. How do I do it?

SOURCE: remote access, panasonic cordless phone and answering machine

I phoned in from another phone and retrieved my messages. The problem was not with the answering machine but with the phone and calling card I had been using. Don't use a hotel switch board nor calling card, too many intermediate parties for the 2 digit code to work with.

SOURCE: My LG VX6100 won't accept voice messages

Problem solved! Turns out that my son didn't realize that you have to call your voicemail box and delete voice messages by pressing "7" on the keypad. He thought that when you pressed "erase all" on the text message menu it erased voice mail, too. So the mailbox was full, as it only holds twenty messages. Sometimes the most obvious solution is the solution!

How do I program the machine to record messages? My message plays, but there is no record of my recording when I leave a message?

You have announce set to on, where callers can hear your message but cannot leave one of their own.

The instructions for changing this are on page 28 of the manual at

The pre recorded message on the answering machine has been lost.

I read thru the manual. There is nothing bout recovery of factory messages. If you recorded your own, try deleting it. Or unplug the base from power and try a reset. This is from the manual. At the end, I gave you a link to the manual!

Caller cannot leave a message & the letter A is showing on the recorder

Your system is set to "Announce" instead of "Answer". Since you neglected to specify the model of your VTech answering system I can only suggest you enter it into the search box here to download a copy of the manual to learn how to switch the mode.

Clearing memory

I had an answering machine that did this. If you didn't tell it to delete a message after listening to it it would automatically save all recordings until it filled up and would no longer record. You need to listen to saved messages and delete each one. There may be a way to clear all but I do not know this. If you have a message delete or erase button try holding that down for a few seconds.
