I had one that appeared totally dead and replaced four capacitors (~$5 to buy) and it's back up and running. If you pull the back of the unit and remove the unit attached to the power cord you'll see a pcb board. Look for any capacitors that look kind of rounded on the top (they should be flat). On mine it was a cluster of one 470 uF and three 1000 uf capacitors. Desolder those and solder in new ones. Mine were rated at 16 volts but I replaced them with 25 volt units for a bit more safety margin.
