SOURCE: Ps3 System Update Failed, PS3 boots with error code 8002F14E.

-Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in.
-When the update begins, pull your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again. Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for about 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. If you do not get this msg after 30 seconds, do it again until it does! Now, slide your HDD into place again - (make sure your controller is PLUGGED IN) and press the white PS3 button on the controller. It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR white PS3 Button - PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to user agreements!! Simply hit cancel and it will kick back to the PS3 start up screen.

SOURCE: not remembering my place in book suspect device is

The lighted version gets power for the light from the hooks used to attach the device to the cover. Early versions of the non-lighted cover are reported to interfere with the hidden power connectors.

You can find out, by removing the cover and see if the problem goes away.

If you feel your Kindle suffers from this problem, contact Amazon Kindle customer support (go to HERE, click on "Kindle Support" in the upper right and on the next page find the "Contact us" button). According to other customers who had the same issue, Amazon replaces the faulty non-lighted cover for a lighted one at no extra costs.

I saw on the news about a update required on older kindles to be able to download books

Please check out the two links below. The first link will take you to Amazons Fire and Kindle software update page. Scroll down until you find your device, click on it and read through the documentation.

The second link explains the update and why it is needed in more detail. Please read the second link first before using the first link.

Also, if you Kindle is connected to wifi and is set to sync and update, it SHOULD download and apply the update on its own.

My alcatel is asking for an adb sideload. How do I do this?

Probably every Android power-user at least once in his life used ADB - Android Debug Bridge. It is a versatile command line tool that lets you communicate with an emulator instance or connected Android-powered device. Using ADB shell commands gives you additional control over your device and sometimes it can save your device from being bricked (example: How to: copy ROM zip file to the freshly wiped device). You can find some more basic information about ADB here.

How to: copy ROM zip file to the freshly wiped device. The main difference is that ADB sideload works only with recoveries based on Jelly Bean source or newer. I believe that ADB sideload was created to simplify the process of flashing/restoring Android update.zip packages.

Keep in mind that while using ADB sideload, the regular ADB shell won't work. To be able to use SIDELOAD mode make sure you're running latest ADB drivers from the Android SDK (Platform-tools). Here are the simple steps you need to follow to flash update.zip package using adb sideload mode (based on stock Android recovery):
  1. Place the ZIP package you want to install in the same location where you keep ADB drivers - adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and AdbWinUsbApi.dll (usually it's SDK\platform-tools)
  2. Make sure you have USB debugging enabled in Settings > Development on your device
  3. Make sure your phone drivers are installed on the PC you're going to use
  4. Boot your device in recovery mode (Android logo with a exclamation mark) and connect your device to PC
  5. Hold down "power" button first, followed quickly by "volume up" button. You should now see the recovery menu
  6. Use the volume up/down keys to select "apply update from ADB," then press power to select it
  7. Open a command prompt on the PC (cmd.exe), type and confirm with ENTER:
  8. cd /d <adb.exe location> (for example: cd /d c:\SDK\platform-tools) or you can open your SDK/platform-tools folder, then press SHIFT button and the right-click mouse button and choose "Open command prompt here"
  9. adb sideload <filename>.zip (for example: adb sideload update.zip)
  10. The zip package will begin installing. When it's done, select "reboot system now."
How is that different from the alternative method? You don't have to manually create the proper folders structure, push the file and later install if from inside the recovery menu. The result is basically the same, because ADB sideload is also transferring the zip file into the device internal memory and later it automatically begins the installation procedure. However, it works only with recoveries based on Android Jelly Bean source.

Android System Recovery

Obvious question is what the tablet had been doing during its' last use.
Was something newly installed, was system or apps updated, etc. ?
Were all the APPs and or system shut down properly ?
Did update or installation recommend restarting system, prior to use ? Were multiple installations / updates performed ?

Your device appears to be in a recovery boot-loop.
As stupid as this may sound ...
Is the power adapter connected ? Let battery charge for at least 30 minutes and try again.
If battery is low, it may not complete the reset. - you should have seen something on the screen, denoting " wipe and reset " procedure and completion - prior to (#1) Rebooting device

Per your post, you have already (#4) wiped the data and instructed the device to reset to factory settings, then (#1) Reboot system.
That is the generally accepted reset method

This problem is not all that uncommon, it generally results when attempting reset, internal boot commands error for what ever reason. ( can not find the factory restore / recovery file set ).

This problem is more common when "fixes ", Specialty " Roots " or "mods" have been installed by the user - making changes to the boot program and commands OR when manufacturer files have been deleted / moved from system access. - Common suggestion is to work backwards through the mod processes and / or attempt to re-install mod or follow the special mod recovery method.

Without having available the proper ROM " flash " update / installation file(s), and you may " brick " the device.
I recommend you go to manufacturer site and check for available ROM files, reset / reinstallation processes ( memory card method ? )

You state the tablet is less than six months old. You may want to contact manufacturer for possible warranty service.

They will most likely ask the referenced obvious questions, to better understand the cause / nature of the device failure and recommend the best immediate possible solution.

This may not be what you seek, I hope it will provide better direction.

Kindle fire hd lockscreen

Prerequisites:

1. Kindle Fire HD 7", Kindle Fire HD 8.9" or Kindle Fire 2
2. Rooted Kindle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2069117
3. Google Play: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2069329

Custom Locker Step 1. Using Google Play, search for "No Lock". Download and Install No Lock - You may use this link to verify the software: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d.nolock&hl=en

Custom Locker Step 2: DO NOT Open No Lock, it will fail. Next, go to the Kindle, open up ES File Explorer or Root Explorer

Custom Locker Step 3: Be sure to enable Superuser on ES File Explorer. Navigate to /data/app, find org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk - long press on the APK, select Move or Move To. Next, Move org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app.

Custom Locker Step 4: Next find org.jaf.androidnolock-1.apk in /system/app. Long press and Choose Permissions (on Root Explorer) or Properties (on ES File Explorer). Change the Permissions to: Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read - Click OK to apply the Permissions.

Custom Locker Step 5: DO NOT Open No Lock. Pull down the Upper Status Bar, Select More+, Select Sounds & Display and change the Screen Timeout to: Never and then reboot the Kindle.

Custom Locker Step 6: Once the Kindle is back to the desktop, open No Lock which is found in the Kindle Apps, select "Locking disabled".

Custom Locker Step 7: Using Google Play Search for MagicLocker Main which you can find here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker - Download and Install Magic Locker Main

Custom Locker Step 8: Be sure to enable Superuser on ES File Explorer. Navigate to /data/app, find mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk - long press on the APK, select Move or Move To. Next, Move mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app.

Custom Locker Step 9: Next find mobi.lockscreen.magiclocker-1.apk in /system/app. Long press and Choose Permissions (on Root Explorer) or Properties (on ES File Explorer). Change the Permissions to: Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read - Click OK to apply the Permissions.

Custom Locker Step 10: Using Google Play Search for MagicLocker Theme - Download and Install a few Themes that interest you. I use Starry lock screen and Jelly Bean lock screen.

Custom Locker Step 11: Launch MagicLocker Main, click on Next, Next, Next - You will now see a popup, click Next and choose Clear Defaults until it Grays Out, click on the picture of a house (Home Button), you will be asked which Launcher to Use, you choose MagicLocker Main <Select Default>.

Custom Locker Step 12: Launch MagicLocker Main, sometimes you are taken to your regular Launcher App, if this happens repeat Step 11. Select "Lost Robot Music" and click Apply. Next MagicLocker applies the Theme and asks if you would like to Customize it, answer Yes or No depending on your interests. I selected No so we can move on. You can always customize it latter.

Custom Locker Step 13: Next MagicLocker will show you an example of the Theme. Unlock it by pulling down the circle in the Android Picture.

Custom Locker Step 14: Now we need to customize the way MagicLocker reacts when you unlock to the Left which is a Phone Call and when you unlock to the Right which is a SMS Application. Unlock straight down just unlocks the screen.

Custom Locker Step 15: OK, lock the Kindle by depressing the Power Button for 1 brief Second until the screen turns black. Depress the Power Button briefly again, you will see the lock Screen. Unlock to the Right, next you are asked which is your SMS Software, I use Go SMS Pro. Check the Box to "Always use this application". Unlock to the Left, next you are asked which is your Phone Software, I use Google Voice and Groove. Check the Box to "Always use this application".

Custom Locker Step 16: Next, let's install the Themes. Find the name of the Themes you downloaded in Step 8. In this example we picked Starry lock screen and Jelly Bean lock screen. So go into the Apps. Find Starry lock screen, click on Starry lock screen and select "Install this theme". The installer will process and you will be back at the MagicLocker main Theme Menu. Exit MagicLocker, then go to Apps, find Jelly Bean lock screen, click on Starry lock screen and select "Install this theme". The installer will process and you will be back at the MagicLocker main Theme Menu.

Custom Locker Step 17: Now we need to let MagicLocker know what is your Default Launcher, so launch MagicLocker, find Preferred Home Launcher, click on Preferred Home Launcher and select your Launcher, we use Nova Launcher Prime.

Custom Locker Step 18: Let's eliminate the Ads from ever appearing again. Open either ES File Explorer or Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app find the dtcp_apk.ap, long press dtcp_apk.apk select Rename. Rename dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.old.

Custom Locker Step 19: Reboot the Kindle.

Custom Locker Step 20: Whenever you reboot, the Kindle Fire Framework starts before anything else, so you may see the Kindle lock screen at Reboot IF you do not let everything start. If you can not wait 5 to 10 minutes, unlock it and let all the services start, usually 10 minutes is sufficient. Once you unlock it, you will notice there are no more Ads! After 10 minutes No Lock Service kicks in and disables the Kindle Fire Lock Screen. We have attempted to play with the start-up timing and ended up with Framework missing, so Amazon was smart when they thought out this function. Also, the service that controls the lock screen is part of the same group that displays the Kindle Framework when you unlock it. Finally, if you do wait 10 minutes you will never see the old Kindle Fire Lock Screen!

That is it! Next we will offer you a solution with the stock lock screen but you will need high resolution photos to make it function properly. Be sure to look at our new Backup and Recovery Software for the Kindle Fire Series: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2096888
