contactjoni,
Your shutter will stick if it gets dirty or dust gets in the camera, a reputable camera shop can inspect the shutter, the sensor for dust & dirt and can clean it for you. If the battery is low while shooting the shutter can also stick on longer exposures.

brickerbg,
That option isn't available for the D70 some manufactureres call it live view, sort of like looking through a video camera's viewfinder and it is what is going to to get recorded or what the picture is going to be. Some point-and-shoot cameras have that but no viewfinder. Digital camera owners have expressed a desire to have that option on DSLR's for a long time now so camera makers are adding that feature. It comes at a higer price now, but soon it will be a standard just like video for DSLR's (D-90). The reason it has been tough to add is that it is a real power drain on the battery to keep the display on and have the auto focus and metering going at the the same time which is what has to happen if it is a "live view". You can keep your display (of pictures taken on longer from the menu) but that's not really what you are after. Hope that helps.

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".
This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.
Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.

Try cleaning the lens contacts with alcohol or sprit

The F-- error means that the camera does not think that you have a later AF type lens attached.
If you are using the 18-135mm then the camera is not properly connecting to the lens.
To test this, press the lens release button on the camera and slightly turn the lens as if you are going to release it then turn it back to lock.
This may fix the problem.
If not you can try remounting the lens a few times and if that doesn't work you could clean the lens contacts.
The contacts are the metal studs on the back end of the lens, the bit that goes into the camera.
Sorry if that is too obvious.
If you have an early lens it must be set to the smallest aperture using the ring around the lens.
This will be 22 or 32.
Then lock it using the little lock near the ring.
Good luck!
