SOURCE: d80 shutter issue

contactjoni,
Your shutter will stick if it gets dirty or dust gets in the camera, a reputable camera shop can inspect the shutter, the sensor for dust & dirt and can clean it for you. If the battery is low while shooting the shutter can also stick on longer exposures.

SOURCE: NIKON D70 CAMERA LCD SCREEN

brickerbg,
That option isn't available for the D70 some manufactureres call it live view, sort of like looking through a video camera's viewfinder and it is what is going to to get recorded or what the picture is going to be. Some point-and-shoot cameras have that but no viewfinder. Digital camera owners have expressed a desire to have that option on DSLR's for a long time now so camera makers are adding that feature. It comes at a higer price now, but soon it will be a standard just like video for DSLR's (D-90). The reason it has been tough to add is that it is a real power drain on the battery to keep the display on and have the auto focus and metering going at the the same time which is what has to happen if it is a "live view". You can keep your display (of pictures taken on longer from the menu) but that's not really what you are after. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: LCD on - view image prior to taking photo

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".

This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.

Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.

SOURCE: Nikon D80 won't take photos!

The F-- error means that the camera does not think that you have a later AF type lens attached.

If you are using the 18-135mm then the camera is not properly connecting to the lens.
To test this, press the lens release button on the camera and slightly turn the lens as if you are going to release it then turn it back to lock.
This may fix the problem.

If not you can try remounting the lens a few times and if that doesn't work you could clean the lens contacts.

The contacts are the metal studs on the back end of the lens, the bit that goes into the camera.
Sorry if that is too obvious.

If you have an early lens it must be set to the smallest aperture using the ring around the lens.
This will be 22 or 32.
Then lock it using the little lock near the ring.

Good luck!

After taking a picture, my lcd displaces annoying technical details of the image. pls how can i take it off from the settings

On the back of the camera where your right thumb would rest is a four way rocker. After you take a photo press the up or down arrow to rotate through the different data screens of your photo until you come to the blank one with just your photo. It will take only four presses to cycle all screens.

Hi ktithender, on the left side top of the LCD on the top of the camera is the battery display and the Auto ISO display. What is it you are seeing as an error message? Also, if you are opening, taking apart the D80 there is not much any of us can do to assist you. My suggestion is to call Nikon 800-645-6689

When the camera is turned on view window is not lit up viewing is dark and grey hard to focus but still takes a good picture?

Do you mean the viewfinder or the lcd-screen?
The Nikon D80 does not have a 'live-view' mode to watch the picture you're about to take on the LCD-screen. It's a semi-professional camera not to be used like a standard 'point-and-shoot' digital camera.
If it is the viewfinder that's out of focus, try adjusting the dial to the right of the viewfinder. It might also be that your internal mirror doesn't get powered (in this case you're unable to see the focus areas). In the last case you will have to get the camera serviced by Nikon.

I just got my new Nikon D80 but cannot get the LCD screen to light up. Where do I find the setting or the LCD screen to have it on while shooting pictures?

The D80 does not use the LCD screen to take images. The screen is only used to review images and use the menu system to check or change camera settings. When shooting, you need to use the viewfinder above the screen.

When I try to take a photo i get f-- on the lcd screen on top of my camera nikon d80

You probably have a lens which has a manual appature ring. This needs to be locked (usually to the largest f number i.e. smallest appature) for use with the f80/f90. You'll find a little switch on the ring that slides down and locks this in place - you may aswell lock it, for safty.

You can still change the appature using the command wheel (sub-command wheel) from the camera it's self. It's not a limitation - it;s just cause yoru camera is too cool. (what lens are you using).

D80

maybe you have changed the mode to "Remote control" - it's the button on top with multiple pages on it (in front of the AF button)
If a remote is shown on the LCD press the button until [S] is shown
