Might be stuck float or bad water valve. Check your model and serial number. Some of these have been recalled for fire hazard.

SOURCE: dishwater fills with water, hot...but doesnt wash?

when in the wash phase, listen for a low hum near the wash pump. if you hear this it indicates the wash pump capacitor is faulty or something jammed in the pump.after that you will have to access the wash pump and check if there is any supply to it

Frigidaire gallery dishwasher model#DGHD2433KF1 water droplets remaining on top lower water not draining all the way leaving an odori

Two things to consider....clean water or dirty water?

Clean water usually indicates the fill valve is not shutting off all the way and the fill valve is "weeping" water in all the time = new fill valve time!!

Dirty water usually is not a dishwasher problem but more of a plumbing issue. Often the sink drain that carries the sinks water outside is not fast enough and some of this sink water is backing up into the drain hose and filling up the dishwasher through the drain hose. The drain from the sink to outside needs attention as this type of a problem indicates a slow house drain for that sink.

The dishwasher drain line should be clamped to the top underneath part of the counter before entering the sink drain plumbing, this may help the water from coming back inside the dishwasher.

Dishwasher holds water at bottom after wash is done and cycle ends

Some water at the bottom of your dishwasher is ok. However if the water more than covers the bottom then you have a problem.
  1. First thing to try and this may fix the whole issue. Check the air-gap to see if their is a clog in the line.
  2. If your hose is clear change out your drain line and drain pump parts #99002750 and #99002652
That will fix it for sure. Have a great day!

Dishwasher won't drain--Maytag Quiet Series 300

A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.

Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water.

Other dishwashers simply reverse the direction of the motor to drain the dishwasher. These units don't have a drain valve. Instead, there's a drain hose connected directly to the pump housing.

We have a Maytag dishwasher. The first thing I noticed was the soap oozing down the door, but it also appears that the spray arms aren't moving. The water is sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher.

Depending on your model number, Maytag dishwashers on one model have combined drain pump & spray arm pumb. On other Maytag units these pumps are stand alone pumps. Check to make sure that:
1: drain hose to drain pipe(disposal) is open and flows well, do this by disconnecting the hose from disposal end and lay flat (in a pan) on floor and see if water comes out, if it does hose is clear of gunk.
2: Check garbage disposal inlet tube where drain hose connects, if your recently installed disposal then you may have forgot to remove plastic plug,
3: Turn spray arms by hand and make sure they spin freely,
4: make sure that when you close the door it latches and you can hear the pump running.

If all the above are ok, then you have a drain/motor gone down and will need to replace it. Give us a model number and we can advise better where else to look.

Water left in compartment

You need to elevate your dishwasher drain hose under the sink. The water going down your disposal side is running down the hose into the dishwasher.

Whirlpool built in dishwasher. not aware of model number

Putting vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher is not going to help because it has nothing to do with the FILL cycle. The bottom (or sump) actually is used during the WASH and DRAIN cycles. I would check the fill port where the water inlet hose goes into the side of the wash tub. You will need to pull the unit out and locate the inlet hose on the SIDE of the dishwasher. The hose should be a black rubber hose located on the left-hand side of the machine. I had a very similar problem that turned out to be calcium deposits clogging the fill port BEFORE it got to the fill valve. With the unit turned off, I removed the rubber hose and used a small screwdriver to poke straight down into the fill port and break up a bunch of calcium. The unit worked fine after that. It is normal for some dishwasher models to drain if they do not detect enough fill water, or if they detect a leak. Usually when the fill port becomes restricted or clogged you will find puddles of water forming under the dishwasher. You might want to remove the bottom panel and check for leaks as well (if you haven't done so already). If you check the fill port and it is clear, the fill valve could be a possibility as well. However, you mentioned you could hear water running which leads me to believe that you have a simple clog somewhere...but, the valve could have accumulated some deposits as well. Check the fill hose and let me know. Good luck and I hope this helps you. PS Another common mistake people make is to put drain cleaner in their dishwashers. This can damage the pump and chopper assembly. Not to mention, it could be harsh on the some of the rubber seals. Not a good idea.
