Hello, Connet the output of the cable box to the DVD player and the TV out output of the DVD player to the TV (TV must be tuned to Channel 0, Chanel 3 or 4). You should be able to use the remote to switch between the DVD signal and the cable signal.
I lost the AV cord to my Zenith DVP-615 portable DVD player too. I bought a standard RCA AV but it did not work. I found my cord so I was able to compare. The standard RCA AV cable has a 4-part mini-plug. The tip is white, next is yellow, next is ground and the base is red. For the Zenith DVP-615, the tip is yellow, next is white, next is red and the base is ground.I never found where to purchase a replacement but perhaps this will help someone make their own.
some tv's default to channel 2 after being unplugged.since it is a older tv ,the buttons on the remote and the tv maybe worn down.on the tv itself try pushing the buttons down a liitle harder. if you have aux or line in/video inputs, scroll down on the channel button to log into a aux channel for the dvd player.as for the remote try buying a cheap universal remote to see if that works.
good luck
