SOURCE: shaking/vibration in front end & steering wheel

Nor sure about the 2001 model, but on the 97 model, the track bar bolts to the frame on the driver's side. The bolts work loose. Dont merely look at it, go ahead and tighten them. There are two bolts facing upward, at the end lf the track bar. Then there are 3 nuts behind the driver's side front wheel that need to be tight. You dont have to take the wheel off so see them. I tightened all of mine and the death wobble nearly went away ....( 90%)....then I replaced the steering stabilizer ( damper). Hope your 2001 is just as easy !

Alignment has alot to do with the tires not shimmying.. Like zero toe setting. Loose componants like tie rod ends and the idler ar worn. You can ck for excess front end play by holding the front and back of the wheel and pushing and pulling on it, like rocking it. OR have someone rock the steering while you watch where the play is from underneath. By rocking I mean turn the steering wheel back and forth. Look at all th joints and pivot points for excess play, which is, movement not immediate to the rest of the steering system. Tire balance is very important. Wheel hop is a sign of a bad tire and it overtaxes the shock absorber. Shocks don't cause shimmy because they are a vertical movement controlA shimmy is lateral or side to side.Wheel balance weights must be spit. If a 2 oz. weight is needed to balance the tire, Oe once should be on the inside of the wheel and one ounce on the outside directly across from each outher.. Loose wheel brgs will cause shimmy, but they would not last long. Caster setting on the wheel alignment will also cause shimmy. Like on a shopping car. too much caster causes the wheel to start fluttering and is very hard on other componants. This may be why you have worn tie rod ends and a bad pitman arm. Worn control arm bushings and ball joints directly affect titre wear and can only be feltwhen the front end hits a dip and detected by side wear on the tire edges. Summary: replace the tie rod end and have the car aligned. Good Luck, -Ned_ sorry about the book

My Mitsubishi Lancer need wheel alignment, tell me, under what degree the wheel should be set up

castor angle 1/2 to 11/2 degrees
camber 0 to 1degrees
toe in 1/8 to 1/4
As it has to be done at a wheel alignment shop they will know the best settings. Make sure that they do the alignment on the rear first as it affects the front alignment

My Mitsubishi lancer ex vibrates at 120kmph. I have sent in wheel balancing, wheel alignment already but still giving me same problem. Car model is Mitsubishi lancer ex 2.0 2011 model, and done 15,000klm

Well, I had this problem once and it lasted for years and could never figure out what it was until one day I took it into a tire shop. They found out that when the tire & rim was placed onto the car, the lug nuts were not centering the wheel correctly on the cars hub. So while driving the tire was not centered and it caused a shimmy vibration that would shake the steering wheel like it was out of balance.

Wondering why my 2003 mitsubishi lancer steering wheel shakes when i reach 60 mph?

Something is not true. Typically, if the unit passes inspection, you balance tires. During the balance pay particular attention to the run out of the tread surface. When plies split or delaminate, you get an oblong tire. Jack the car up, lower it on to jack stands so that the tires are still off of the ground, then spin the tires and sight carefully at the tread surface and something beyond it. (Turning by hand usually does not allow proper inspection, carefully run the car at very slow speed.)
A key clue is whether the brakes can have any effect on the issue. A rotor out of true can manifest as your issue.
Other items are drive shafts. If the CV joints or the shafts are untrue, loading, cruising and coasting often have direct effect on the issue.
If you find no faults in these areas, consider an on the car balance. This method, although older and not always computer controlled, does compensate for some component issues, as well as the tire. If you do this you must mark the orientation of the wheel, in case it has to come off. If you put it back on the same, you would not need to rebalance, rotate the wheel and hub relationship and balance would be off.

Hi Guys, \r\n\r\nI have Lancer 12/2000 , I took my car to the mechanic, he told me I need to change my front and rear shock abosorbers- noisy and soft. I asked him how much its gone cost me, he told me...

Usually you can tell that they are bad when, There is oil coming out of them or they are soft and or making noise. The back shock I believe you can change them your self and the front ones are little bite freaky and you will need help because of the Spring that can jump on you and hurt you if you dont know how to luck them. But anyhow if you go on the Advance auto part or pepe boys store then you can ask them for the price of the Parts you need then you can get them and put the back ones your self and try to find somebody online or near you that do Mechanics on the side and he might do the front ones for you for a good price. Good luck

My car has a slight wobble at low speed

what is low? 45mph ok heres a rule of thumb

20-60 Wheel balance
60-70 toe problem/ alignment issue..

70+ could be both..

or ofcorse you could have a broken belt in a tire or a bent rim
