Check for bad bearing in clutch immediately, Remove belt, try and turn the clutch pulley if it is hard to turn or feels rough, replace the bearing in the clutch. If you do not replace bearing immediately you will be buying a $300.00 clutch very soon. I know from experience. You possibly have been hearing a loud unusual roar from engine area for awhile and wondered where it was coming from. As these bearing will usually squall a cry for awhile before they die.

SOURCE: 2007 Husqvarna Riding mower blade will not engage

Sounds like you electric blade clutch is bad. I just had the same thing happen to my exmark mower. I was cutting grass and the engine just shut down. It would not crank over. Checked the fuses and replaced one blown fuse. The engine wanted to crank over but it was locked up. I looked the engine over and seen that the bearing in the electric clutch seized up causing the clutch to melt.

SOURCE: I have a 15.5 HP Sears Craftsman 42

I'm betting that you need a new safety kill switch - probably the one underneath the seat (the spring-loaded plunger switch that won't let you use the machine without your *** in the seat). Could also be the one behind the "dash" that is associated with the blade engagement mechanism.

I know that the under-seat-switch cannot be bypassed or it will disable the machine in the exact way that you described. Why do I say this? Because I just tried to bypass my own "***-in-the-seat-safety-switch" on my very own 15.5 HP, 42" Sears tractor, and it responded by punishing me - the absense of the switch caused the motor to cut out when I tried to put the machine in gear AND/OR engage the blade. It seems to have some measured capacitance - the absense of same seeming to interrupt the ignition timing enough to shut the motor down when you attempt to get anywhere past neutral or engage the blade. These "safety" switches may be needed by a very few who prefer to be drunk while they mow lawns on steep slopes that their tractor mowers were not designed for, but I find these items to be troublesome and enfuriating. My trees shed a lot of sticks in high winds, and I can't stand shutting the machine down and restarting it EVERY SINGLE TIME I have to dismount to clear sticks or other obstructions out of my mowing path. This is an obnoxious, "nanny-design" feature that desparately needs to be discontinued. It also makes both jump-starting the tractor and electrical troubleshooting much more difficult than they should be. The tractor should let you dismount without shutting down, as long as you have disengaged the blade and shifted into neutral. It should also let you jump start with jumper cables - impossible to do with your rear end in the seat. By the way, call Manufacturer's Supply, Inc. at 1-800-826-8563. They may have a replacement - their item number 31-9664 might do it, but talk to them first. I'm calling them tomorrow. Good luck.

SOURCE: Mower runs fine but shuts off when the blades are engaged.

This sis a micro switch issue, start by checking/replacing the seat switch, make sure the block connecter is fully pushed home onto the micro switch.

The mower starts but the blade switch won't conect yth1542xp

Husqvarna uses an electronic clutch to engage the mower deck. When the clutch works itself out of adjustment it will quit working. Sometimes it will blow the 20 fuse and the tractor will continue to run, but the blade won't engage. When you then shut off the tractor it won't crank again until you replace the fuse. When you attempt to engage the blades again, the fuse will blow again.

Follow this link for a detailed description of the adjustment process:

Prob with PTO on craftsman mower 917.273372

There is a idler pivot plate on the mower that must be cleaned and lubricated regularly, from the left side of the mower deck if you look in the middle of the mower deck while someone engages the mower(with the engine off) you will see the pulley try and move, there is a 3/8 bolt that comes up through a bushing that this pivots on, soak that area with wd-40 and see if that improves the movement. Be sure not to get any wd-40 on the belt or pulleys. Always try and keep that area clean and lubed.

LTX1000 42" 18HP Kohler - Blowing fuse after 2-4 min mowing.

sounds as though you are on the right track
but be sure to check the wiring directly from the electric clutch on the front of the motor back to the switch
a wire could be pinched in the frame and shorting out intermittingly
look around and find those wires and move them around and look for chaffing and tightness
and what you could also do is to unhook the clutch at the connection to it at the front of the motor and engage switch and ride around and see if fuse blows and if not you may have an electric clutch issue

FUSE BLOWS WHEN BLADES ARE ENGAGED CRAFTSMAN MODEL # 917.27686

Most probably you have a wire shorting to the frame of your mower.

Trace (follow) the wires from the switch, checking for any frayed, burned, or bare wires.

Repair as needed.
