You've probably heard people go on and on about the "sweep" or talk about how top quality watches don't make that tell-tale "tick-tock." For all intents and purposes, these people are right. When you pick up a Cartier or Chopard, the tiny hand measuring the passage of seconds glides effortlessly, like a toothless hockey player. In actuality, all wristwatches tick-tock. However, in a true quality watch, the internal mechanism (the movement) is so finely tuned and so well constructed, that these ticks happen as often as nine times a second, producing a flawless sweep. This is the difference between a five-dollar movement and a movement costing hundreds of dollars.

It's is also why sweeping hand watches need the time set every month. They have nice fine teeth and the hand sweeps all pretty but looses 5 minutes a month on a $35,000 watch! Yet my cheaper $600.00 tic tok invitca keeps perfect time. And not the Rolex doesn't need fixed I've been assured by a few people this is NORMAL. So I now buy the cheaper watches and can get a lot more of them. They have nicer styles anyway.

How to get the second hand to move

If you are referring to the large orange colored hand, it is NOT the second hand. It is the hand of the depth indicator when the watch is used for diving. Or it is the timer hand when the watch is used as a stop-watch. The second hand is actually on the bottom sub-dial.

Second hand doesnt move. The ''stop watch'' second hand moves instead of the ''main'' second hand. also the stopwatch feature doesn't work. My watch is a Fossil Blue Titanium model TI-5071

Sounds like a job for Fossil!

Go to their web site "www.fossil.com" and at the bottom of their page is a menu which includes "store locator".

My Stauer Atomic won't stay connected to time signal

These watches only need to see a signal several times a day, not necessarily continuously.

If it keeps good time, don't worry about it.

Large second hand not running, Stop Watch function?

Hey, it sounds like your watch is just fine! A nice watch to inherit.
The small second hand on the sub-dial is your normal second hand.
The large second hand is the second timer for your chronograph feature.
It should only move when you hit the side buttons. One of them (usually the top plunger/ button) will start the Chrono timer and then hitting it again will stop it. The bottom button should reset the hand to the 12 o'clock/ zero marker.
If the large hand is not functioning at all then there may be something wrong with the watch; perhaps the buttons are not making full contact within the watch or the hand may be stuck and need repair.
Hope this answers your questions. Post more questions if need be.
    Congrats on your new watch.

Need to know how to operate Cartier Tank Francaise Chronography W

The top button is for chronograph function and puts the chronograph seconds hand in motion. The bottom button is for resetting chronograph seconds hand to zero.
    Do as follows:
    1) push the top button once- seconds hand starts moving,
    2) push the top button once more- seconds hand stops,
    3) push the bottom button once- seconds hand returns to zero.
You can repeat as many times as you like- seconds hand will allways start the countdown from zero.
Depending on what movement your watch has(mechanical or quartz), there can be more variations, but the basics are as described.
If you need more info, supply full info of your watch(make, model, numbers, etc.), please.
Do not forget to rate, please.
